Call us crazy but we think winter is one of the best times to be on the Gold Coast. Where else do you get crisp mornings that turn into endless sunny days? Turns out we’re not the only ones who dig this season, with the Burleigh Winter Solstice Festival returning to the seaside suburb this year.

While the festival officially kicks off on Saturday 22 June, this year they’re getting the party started early.

This time around, locals can enjoy a whole month of pop-up events including a free Skate Clinic on Saturday 8 June under Burleigh’s Ambience Hotel, plus live music and Solstice dining specials on Saturday 15 June at Ze Pickle. There’ll also be lantern-making workshops for the kids at Stocklands Burleigh on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 June, ahead of the main event.

The festival will then take over town on the Solstice—the shortest day and longest night of the year—on Saturday 22 June, with a free community celebration including live music, BMX and skateboard stunt demonstrations, activities for the kids including face-painting and inflatables, fire performances, lantern lighting, market stalls and delicious dining from local restaurants.

Burleigh restaurants, bars and traders taking part in offering winter specials for the month of June include Weiner Haus (at Stocklands Burleigh), Stoked Pizza, Night Jar, Mr Hizolas, Slice, Oh My Waffle, Ze Pickle, Carmels and Sean Scott Collections, with more to follow.
