Drinks in an old gaol, virtual reality, zombie survival and Oktoberfest kicks off! There really is quite a variety this weekend and we’re spoilt for choice. Whatever it is you’re looking to do we’re here to help. Here are 12 awesome things to do in Melbourne this weekend:

All Weekend

Oktoberfest Launch Weekend

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well maybe second most wonderful – Christmas is great and all but who doesn’t love Oktoberfest? And what better place to celebrate than at the Munich Brauhaus. This weekend, Munich Brahaus are kicking off Oktoberfest with live authentic music, Bavarian feasts and of course, bier. Check out all the info and book your table here.

Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival

The Crown Riverwalk is going to be lit up this weekend with Chinese lanterns, cultural performances and games and street food stalls. The event is free and open to the public and will feature heaps of cultural entertainment including Chinese ‘face changing’ performances, Japanese drumming and a Lantern Walk. There’s also eating competitions for those of you looking for a challenge, but also regular food stalls for those of you who aren’t.  Check out all the info here.

Latin Spring Festival

This weekend the Latin Spring Festival kicks off in a free multicultural themed celebration of Latin culture. The festival will feature an array of Latin American entertainment, local acts, musicians, merchandise stalls and traditional Latin American street food (oh the food). Head down to Coburg this weekend and check out this free event.

Zombie Apocalypse

Let’s not kid ourselves, the zombie apocalypse is inevitable and it’s best to be prepared. This weekend zombies have infected Mornington Peninsula (much to our excitement) and you can head up there and tackle the 7km obstacle course, while being chased by the undead. Get a team together and become a runner or get infected and chase other runners around as a zombie! Book your survival team here.

Vegan Day Out

Now one for all you vegans out there. The Cruelty Free Shop are hosting another day out full of discounts, samplings, tastings, free stuff and two for ones. All you need to do is head down to the Cruelty Free Shop in Fitzroy, on either Saturday or Sunday, and collect your free Vegan Day Out Map. The map shows all outlets that are providing deals within walking distance. Just show them the map and enjoy all your vegan discounts! Check out all the info here.

The Virtual Reality Cinema

One of the standouts of this year’s Fringe Festival is this VR exhibition. Featuring works by filmmakers, musicians, architects and interactive/game artists, the cinema presents 18 original VR pieces across subjects of music, art, short film and documentary. You can jump on an 1800’s tall ship, ride a ghost train in Alabama and step into the mind of an architect. Check it out here.

Vintage Food Truck Weekend

The Food Truck Park always has something cool going on, and as we move further into spring the events are just going to keep on rolling. This weekend it’s featuring a vintage food truck exhibition. There will be vintage cars and fashion, bric-a-brac, local designers and DJs spinning old vinyl. It could be worth heading down for a feed and seeing if there are any vintage gems you can dig out. Oh and its dog friendly, so that’s always a plus!

Royal Melbourne Show

Its show time! That’s right, put some time away this weekend because the Royal Melbourne Show is back. Kicking off this Saturday and running until the 27th of September, the show boasts live music, animal entertainment, rides, arts and crafts and of course, Showbags (make sure to stock up on plenty of Bertie Beetles).
