GABS Beer, Cider & Food Festival
Over three days this weekend, the Royal Exhibition Building dome will host a beer, cider and food festival of epic proportions as part of Good Beer Week. This festival-in-a-festival will showcase over 400 beers and ciders, many of which have been produced exclusively for GABs by the finest Australian and NZ producers. With an amazing selection of local food vendors like Huxtaburger, Milk the Cow, Mamasita and Hammer & Tong, your stomach will be well-lined for the drinking ahead. Also on the agenda are education classes, circus performers, roaming musicians and rides on a specially installed giant ferris wheel (no jokes!). The Violet Sisters by The Owl & Cat Theatre
The Owl & Cat Theatre are nailing it with their contemporary plays, all done on a budget of $100 a show. Their new play is set in the wake of hurricane Sandy, when the protagonist comes home to attend her father’s funeral and is greeted by an angry sister, a dilapidated house, and a past that she cannot escape. Opening night of the St Kilda Film Festival
Do not miss the opportunity to celebrate the unique talent of this year’s featured Australian filmmakers at the St Kilda Film Festival. The wonderful Palace Theatre will host 3000 guests for the launch of the festival, featuring samples some of the best on offer in the 2016 program. Brews Springsteen at Lulie St Tavern
If you haven’t yet been to a Good Beer Week event because you’re strapped for cash, you have no excuse here folks as this one is FREE. Lulie has planned a tap takeover by Thunder Road Brewing Company in the newly opened Marfa Art Gallery, directly above the tavern. Local musos will be playing Springsteen classics live upstairs, whist downstairs DJs will be spinning waxed hits. Flame-grilled morsels will be served from the courtyard til late.
