We haven't rung around and checked, but we're pretty sure Melbourne's the wellness capital of the world right now. There seems to be a new fitness studio opening every week. The whole ‘yoga and brunch’ culture is definitely on the rise, and with good reason. Why slog around The Tan in the rain when you can eat acai bowls and rock Child's Pose in a toasty-warm studio? If you want to know what's hot on the Melbourne's wellness scene, we've got you covered.
Here are 5 new fitness studios to check out this weekend.
Warrior One has made a bit of a name for itself. It's one of the best places to downward-dog in Melbourne. Their Brighton studio is thriving on the daily, and they’ve just opened a brand new yogi oasis in Mordialloc. Designed by GOLDEN, this spacious studio provides a bright welcoming feel, chill surfer vibes and the Tribe Wellness Bar (opening soon) so you can enjoy a chai or smoothie after class.
PRO TIP: Get yourself to Monica’s 90-minute 9.30am Friday class. She’ll have you flowing your way into the weekend.
Willow Urban Retreat
Willow just popped up on High St in Armadale (where else?). It's definitely pitching for that 'holistic wellness' thing. Willow offers a healthy cafe, infrared sauna, yoga, dance and rebounding classes, meditation courses, consultations with Ayurvedic specialists and naturopaths...plus a full spa menu. Phew. The idea was to create a little urban oasis, where you could retreat and nourish your soul (and your tummy). We reviewed Willow recently over here.
PRO TIP: Try the rebounding classes! It’s the most fun you’ve had on a trampoline since you were five.
All For One
All For One is the newest addition to Melbourne’s booming wellness scene. Offering everything from yoga to pilates, meditation and fitness classes, they're pretty much your workout one-stop-shop. The design is frankly stunning, and theyve brought together passionate clinical and fitness experts to help craft your bespoke road to wellness. You can check out their website here.
My tip: Try the reformer pilates classes!
You'll find PRAXIS Athletic in the heart of Windsor. They provide a refreshing “no frills” approach to working out. With an emphasis on strength training, they've got heaps of classes, as well as 1:1 training options. Their approach to training is very holistic, no ‘drop and give me 20’ here. Expect an inclusive environment and a real sense of community. Leave your ego at the door.
PRO TIP: Get upside down on Wednesday or Friday lunchtimes with Oscar Meerman’s Bodyweight classes. You’ll be handstanding your way to happiness.
Preston & Port Melbourne
CORE+ already has a few venues around (Richmond, Melbourne, Hawthorn East etc), but they're just about to open two new studios: one in Preston and one in Port Melbourne (an interesting glimpse into Melbourne's wellness demographic right there). They're all about a holistic approach to moving your body. With a belief that everything comes from the core, CORE offers results-based group fitness classes fusing the best elements of yoga, pilates and functional movement. Guaranteed to get your body moving and put you on your way to a six-pack.
PRO TIP: Try the ‘Guns, Bums and Tums’ class. Ideal to get you sweating, and the music is always banging.
