Melbourne’s Massive Malbec Wine Fest Is Coming Back

Mark this one in your diary. Then draw a small wine bottle next to it, plus an attractive Argentinian couple doing the tango and a couple of exclamation marks.

Yep, Gauchito Gil’s famous Malbec Day is coming back to Melbourne.

The event isn’t till April, but there’s no harm in prepping your liver now. Like last year, you can expect the best Malbec producers from Argentina, France and Australia, over 90 bottles cracked and ready for tasting, plus tango dancers tearing up the D-Floor. It’s being run by the legends from REVEL (the guys who brought you Pinot Palooza and Game of Rhones—yeah, they enjoy wine puns).

“What started out as a bit of fun has become one of our fastest growing events,” says REVEL Director Dan Sims. “But then again, it’s hard to argue with Malbec, empanadas and tango.”

If unlimited Malbec tasting wasn’t enough to get you through the door, they’re bringing back the Golden Empanada Competiton. A no-holds-barred Argentinian food fight between five of Melbourne’s hottest restaurants. Last year San Telmo and CHE took out the trophy, and they’re coming back in 2018 to defend their titles.

Tickets will set you back $60, but that comes with all the tastings you can guzzle, plus a Plumm Vintage wine glass.

Get in quick. This thing booked out quick smart last year.
