Hey, we've got to work off those burgers somehow.
So, how can you make this your most amazing month this year? Just press that ‘play’ button and watch our hit-list of the ten top things to do in Melbourne this November… Then read below for the fine print. Sorted.
#10: Spring Racing Carnival Is Here!
It’s time to get carnival ready, Listers, because the final Spring Carnival race dates are here. If you only go to one event this season, make sure it’s the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 3rd November. Grab your mates, book your tickets and get ready for one of the best events this Spring. Just don’t forget to pack your fascinator!
#9: Lady Carolina Is THE Place To Dine
Paul Wilson’s latest Latin American restaurant, Lady Carolina, is open for business, and what a treat it is. From mouth-watering kingfish ceviche, to hot-off-the-grill tacos, to traditional Peruvian BBQ and salads, Lady Carolina IS the taste of summer. Psst! You could win dinner for 2 at Lady Carolina, followed by one night's accommodation at The Larwill and transfers to and from the restaurant thanks to Ticktoc. Simply Instagram and tag @miniaustralia and #theminiedition when you are at any of the 10 November events.
#8: Get Covered In Colour At The Color Run
Ditch your dreary gym kit for something a little brighter… Fitness meets chaos at the Color Run, the only 5k race where runners get pelted with coloured powder throughout the duration of the course. This year’s Melbourne leg of the Color Run’s Australian stint takes place at Flemington Racecourse on Sunday 22 November and, with hundreds of runners already signed up, it’s going to be one wild day out.
#7: 1000£ Bend Gets A Sibling
The geniuses behind 1000£ Bend, Sister Bella, Slice Girls, St. Jerome’s – The Hotel and heaps of other Melbourne icons have done it again with The Unknown Union, their latest tiny hidden bar that’s perched upstairs, above the 1000£ venue. Harking back to days of bordellos and speakeasies and serving a range of tasty food and drinks, The Unknown Union is top of our list of new openings in November.
#6 Get Your Gelato Fix In Windsor
Summer = Gelato, and nobody does it better than Sydney dessert masters, Gelato Messina. Their new Windsor store opens this week, meaning you’ll have a whole month to enjoy their handmade wonders. As for one of our most ambitions things to do in Melbourne this November? Eat a different flavour each day. Go on, as if you needed an excuse.
#5: Flambee cones!? You’ll Find It At Taste Of Melbourne
The line-up for this year’s Taste of Melbourne is looking better than ever, with big names including Supernormal, Pastuso, Circa and Mamasita, but the icing on the food festival cake is Gazi’s amazing flambee bombe cone, which comes toasted to a tee thanks to their blowtorch technique. The most exciting thing you’ll eat all month, guaranteed.
Taste of Melbourne is running from Thursday 12 – Sunday 15 November. For a full preview, check out 9 Amazing Things You’ll Find At Taste of Melbourne.
#4: Arbory Afloat = A Brand New Riverside Bar
Arbory, aka. the longest bar in Melbourne, opens its latest venue this month, bringing a brand new bar and eatery to the Melbourne dining scene. Rather than running along the bank of the Yarra, Arbory Afloat is set on a barge that floats on the river’s surface, making for an idyllic spot to enjoy a sumptuous meal. Specialising in seafood and skewers, it’s one of our top new sunset spots in the city, but you'd better be quick—Arbory Afloat is only popping up until Sunday 8 November. It doesn’t get more beautiful than a lobster roll on the river at sundown, my friends.
#3: Rooftop Cinema Date? We Love The Lido!
Hawthorn’s Lido Cinema has gone from strength to strength. First, it opened its indoor cinema screens, next was a jazz bar and now comes a fantastic new rooftop cinema area that showcases the latest blockbuster films. Looking for the perfect venue for catching the latest Bond film? Stop looking, and book in for a screening at The Lido, pronto.
#2: Pick Up A Masterpiece At The Etsy Made Local Market
Sometimes shopping for your next favourite craft find can be a bit tricky (Will it match? What size is it, really? How come shipping is more expensive than the item itself?!), which is why we’re stoked that Etsy is bringing its pop-up market, the Etsy Made Local Market, to Rupert on Rupert on Saturday 28 November. As for our top picks, we love Tread and Pedals, who will be showcasing their awesome recycled bicycle accessories, and Mountain Clay, who makes some of the most beautiful ceramics around.
#1: Juniperpalooza Celebrates Gin-Making
Ah, gin, glorious gin. On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, get down to Riverland and Pilgrim Bar for Juniperpalooza, an incredible festival of all things gin, from how to make the stuff to what to mix it with if you’re not a fan of tonic. With pop-up stalls from Bad Frankie and Gin Palace, as well as some notable local gins (big shout out to Four Pillars and the Melbourne Gin Company!), it’s a treat for any boutique spirit aficionados. Cheers!
