7 Awesome Things To Do This ANZAC Day Long Weekend

By Brooke Darling - 21 Apr 2016

First and foremost, Monday 25th is about remembering our treasured ANZACs and their ultimate service to our nation.

Though three days off in a row only comes along once in a blue moon—okay, except perhaps that there’s another long weekend the week following (say what?!). And ‘cause we want to see you making the most of those precious three days from start to finish, we’ve got you covered with seven awesome things to do on the Gold Coast this ANZAC Day long weekend.

Friday Night Shindig at Iron and Resin Garage | Friday 22

In the industrial backstreets of Currumbin, easy access to some of the best moto cruising routes on the Coast, super cool espresso bar cum bike apparel shop, Iron and Resin Garage will be hosting their first ever Friday Night Shindig. Expect sexy motorbikes, vintage cars and hotrods, beer, live acoustics, and street eats from the Barraca food truck—our idea of a freakin’ great start to the long weekend!

When: 6—9pm
Where: 6 Stewart Road, Currumbin

Balter Brewing HQ Now Open | Friday 22—Sunday 24

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock and missed the news, last weekend the guys at Balter HQ finally slid back the doors and welcomed us inside to meet their baby and sample brews direct from the source. They’ll be doing it all again this weekend, so grab your mates and hunt them down in the Currumbin industrial estate. What’s best, you can try the newest Balter brew yet to hit the bars—the Alt Brown. Those peeps who swung by last weekend will agree the good vibes with good friends were freakin’ epic—so say hello to your new watering hole.

When: 3—7pm Friday, plus 12—6pm Saturday and Sunday
Where: 14 Traders Way, Currumbin

Women’s Surf Meet Up by Mazarine Aqua | Sunday 24

Calling all Gold Coast ladies with a love for the ocean—that should be all of you! We’re shouting to the rooftops about this rad initiative by local water babe and online retailer, Mazarine Aqua. Amanda hosts regular Aqua-tivities meet ups and this Sunday morning she and a bunch of fun-loving GC gals will be hitting the surf at Burleigh Heads. If you want to meet other cool chicks and increase your ocean fitness, register your interest online or just head down and look for the Mazarine Aqua tent and flag. It’s a free event (hit up Mt Woodgee early if you need a rental board) and every participant will receive a $20 voucher towards their next Mazarine Aqua active swimwear purchase. See you there?

When: 8am
Where: Burleigh beachfront, across from Burleigh Heads Hotel (look for the Mazarine Aqua flag)

Sunset Affair | Sunday 24

‘Cause summer will only be over when we let it, a stylish new event comes long that raises the heat right back to where we like it. Sunset Affair by Brisbane-based event masters Hidden Republic will, for one afternoon only, takeover QT Gold Coast’s Stingray Lounge and outdoor lawn. Entry is a bit exxy at $155 but the event is super exclusive and includes some rad entertainment, plus four hours of flowing gourmet canapés and premium drinks. Tickets are almost sold out, so get in quick.

When: 1—5pm inclusive drinks package, followed by after-party at Vintage Velvet
Where: QT Gold Coast, 7 Staghorn Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Inaugural NightQuarter Sunday Session | Sunday 24

If the massive, happy crowds every weekend are anything to go by, it’s clear we can’t get enough of NightQuarter. The team have listened and, starting this weekend, will be launching the first ever tropical vibes NightQuarter Sunday Sessions. What’s planned to be a regular event on the last Sunday of each month, this long weekend is certainly a perfect time to test the waters. Entry is the usual $3 and will get you access to more foodie stalls than you can handle (narrow it down with a few of our faves), and kick back to live DJs in The Paddock. BYO Hawaiian shirt.

When: 4—10pm (and every last Sunday of the month going forward)
Where: 1 Town Centre Drive, Helensvale

Currumbin RSL ANZAC Day Dawn Service | Monday 25

We should not for a moment forget why we’re enjoying this long weekend in April, so be sure to pay your respects to our fallen fathers who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to serve while protecting our freedom. Currumbin RSL’s beautiful tribute—including the touching poppy art installation by SWELL—is broadcast across the nation, though there’s nothing better than being there in person, listening to the goosebump-inducing Last Post as the sun rises. For those further north or south, there will be dawn tributes across the Coast including Coolangatta, Surfers Paradise, Southport, and Mudgeeraba. Lest we forget.

When: 5am (march past starts at 4:30am); followed by events and two-up at the Currumbin RSL Club
Where: Elephant Rock, Currumbin Beach

ANZAC Day at The Farm | Monday 25

A short hop across the border at everyone’s fave weekend hangout, The Farm and Three Blue Ducks are throwing a massive ANZAC Day event to celebrate good friends and toast cheers in honour of our service men and women, past and present. Pack your picnic blanket for a chill afternoon on the grass, with Aussie and Kiwi craft beers on tap, two-up, live music, and a good ol’ Aussie lamb on the spit.

When: Kicks off at 12 noon
Where: 11 Ewingsdale Road, Ewingsdale
