Negroni week Melbourne

Drink Negronis and do good: sounds like a pretty good life motto to us. But during the worldwide Negroni Week (June 6-12), both goals become one and the same! Heaps of bars in Melbourne are donating a shiny dollar coin from each bittersweet drink sold to their chosen charity. So slurp down that holy trinity of gin, Campari and vermouth and gain yourself some karma points. Here are our top 10 places to get in on the Negroni Week action.

Arbory Bar and Eatery

We like to slowly savour our Negronis around these parts. But what we don't like wasting time on is waiting in line. Arbory is offering near-instant Negronis in the form of three bottled concoctions. There's a barrel-aged classic, on with a mezcal twist and one take that we reckon could and should replace dessert for the week. Plus there's even going to be a bubbly Negroni on tap! Arbory have chosen to donate to Feed Melbourne.

Nieuw Amsterdam

Teach us your ways Nieuw Amsterdam. The bar is hosting a "Negroni Educational" next Saturday (it's also World Gin Day) which will look at the history of the drink and its progeny, and teaches you how to make a Negroni to suit any occasion. The class supports Beyond Blue and there will be Negroni friendly bites too. Bookings essential.

Four Pillars

The Healesville Distillery gets even more interactive this Negroni Week. Their 'Build Your Own Negroni' offering means you can choose your own gin, vermouth and aperitif. The possible combos are mind boggling. This DIY drink helps the local CFA.

The B.East

Brunswick East

One of The B.East's five Negroni offerings for the week take a trip to the drink's spiritual home Italy via South East Asia. Their 'Flash Bomba' cocktail adds zesty lime, galangal, tamarind and lemongrass to an already herbal mix. Sipping The B.East's Negroni's will help the Scarf Community.

Bar Nonno

What's better than a classic Negroni? Negroni inspired pizza! Alongside a potentially killer slice of pie, Bar Nonno is also offering Negroni shots, which should get the pizza party well and truly started. It's all for the Fight Cancer Foundation.

Contender for the title of potentially the fanciest Negroni going around this week is Polly's 'Pillar of Society'. It's a bottle-aged classic, which suddenly takes a luxe turn with the addition of citrusy ice and a dusting of Campari and Aperol crystals. We definitely need more Campari and Aperol crystal dust in our lives. And Melbourne City Mission needs the donations from this one.

The Noble Experiment

Coffee. Negroni. Yes. Please. We love that The Noble Experiment is merging two of our favourite things to drink thanks to Forty Spotted's Coffee Gin. But we especially love that they are pledging double the usual donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Do we need to also mention that they blend their own secret Vermouth in-house?

Negronis for dinner! We really should do this every day. 1806 is hosting a four-course cocktail degustation to celebrate the drink's wonderful history this Thursday night. 50% of the ticket sales go towards the Cancer Council. Bookings essential.

St Kilda

It's all about the local love for us at Love&Dysfunction. The cocktail joint is offering up a trio of charity tipples, but our pick is their Australian Negroni using ingredients from producers a little closer to home. If they bar reaches 100 Negronis drunk they'll double the donation to the Sacred Heart Mission. You know what to do.

400 Gradi

Not a fan of gin? We can't be friends. But we will still, generously, help you help out this Negroni Week. 400 Gradi's Essendon outpost is mixing up Negrosky cocktails, which substitutes the traditional gin with vodka. It's for a good cause—Bully Zero Australia Foundation—so we'll allow it this one time.
