Attention foodies! Gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian-friendly Middle Eastern cuisine has hit our hungry shores. Our new favourite Mama (don’t tell on us), Mama Rumaan, is serving up decadent Middle Eastern cuisine for every intolerant and tolerant Melbourne food lover.

To prevent food-filled anarchy and for the ultimate sharing and caring Middle Eastern feast, here are our top seven tips!

1. Sit Outside For The Best View, Ever

Smack bang on Central Pier in Melbourne’s Docklands, Mama Rumaan knows that her house has the best waterfront view in town. Snag one of the best outdoor spots in Melbourne, with a view of the city skyline and iconic Etihad Stadium. Your crew can cosy up on a deck lounge chair, or grab a bar spot and watch the boats slide along the water.

2. Lettuce Make Sure The Vegans Are Happy

Everything from a generous takeaway snack to a full-on seven-course feast can be made vegan-friendly for your socially conscious food buddies. Think a sweet and salty Roast Pumpkin Bourani with sumac, yoghurt dressing and mint or Mama’s Old Spice Rice. A twist on your fav fried rice, it’s tossed with peas, slivered almonds, sultanas and potato and is an addictively delicious combo.

3. Order Something For The Carnivores

For the foodies that swear by steaks and triple-stacked beef burgers, there’s plenty of tender, spice-rich dishes to go around. From Beef Kavurma with beef, nutty cumin, lemon, chilli potatoes, peppers and tahini to chicken ribs lathered in Mama’s garlic sauce and pomegranate molasses—it’s practically a meat-eater’s dream. The Middle East Feast with lamb kofta, lamb tekka, chicken tekka, flat bread and traditional condiments is perfect for a pair.

4. Choose The Right Spot

Beautiful inside and out—Mama Rumaan’s sleek, industrial interior features cheeky splashes of dusty pink and greenery to brighten the space. Long share-style tables encased under a modern cage-like rooftop are excellent for larger groups, while smaller tables sit under plump light bulbs and splashes of Mama Rumaan’s pink logo.

5. Trust That The Team Are Basically Gluten-Free Gods

With so many of Mama’s traditional, spice-packed dishes available also gluten-free, you can trust your tastebuds will be as happy as your stomach at Mama Rumaan. From Marinated Chicken Tekka with Mama’s garlic sauce, pomegranate molasses to Masgouf, a dish of fish fillets, coriander, garlic, tomato, capsicum, fresh chilli and saffron rice, you’ll be patting your belly after this gluten-free feast.

6. Stop To Wine and Dine

A boutique drinks menu showcases local and international wines, including everything from French Champagne to Victorian Pinot Noir. Cider and beer favourites sit alongside creative cocktails inspired by Middle Eastern flavours. Choose between the likes of Oma’s Late Night Special with pistachio and orange whiskey dram, or the pomegranate and rosewater martini named Sabah’s Rosie Eye.

7. Don’t Forget Dessert For The Table…Duh?!

Rosewater panna cotta, chocolate pots with halva ice cream or Mama Tatiana’s Knafeh? Save yourself the torture and order one of each! Better yet, if you enter the competition below, you'll be in the running to win Mama's spit roast feast for up to 15 people!
