Melbourne’s newest destination nightspot is just around the corner as hospitality group Made In The Shade—behind venues The Everleigh, Heartbreaker and Connie’s Pizza—will open a new bar on Lonsdale Street this June.
Bar Margaux will be a New York-influenced French brasserie and feature a 100-seat bar, chequered black and white tiled flooring, zinc bar top, and red leather banquettes that will make you feel right at home.
The menu will feature French bistro classics such as duck frites, escargots de Bourgogne, moules Basquiase, and a signature ‘MGX’ cheeseburger. There will also be three different steak options available on the menu.
Daily specials will also run through the week like fondue for two, coq au vin, beef bourguignon, and a ‘Beggars Banquet’ which is an option for four or more.
But, of course, this is a bar, where drinks are king.
“Margaux is a bar, first and foremost. That’s what we do.” says Michael Madrusan—co-owner of Made In The Shade. “A bar with great food and wine. The stuff that we love to eat and drink. There’ll be Guinness on tap. Why? Because we love Guinness. We create places we want to be in. Heartbreaker was absolutely where we wanted to be four years ago. There’s nowhere like Margaux in Melbourne. It’s high time she introduced herself."
The cocktail menu will be split into three categories. Light aperitif, serious styles, and digestif. You’ll find French, and Italian spritzes, the Black Velvet (Guinness and Champagne), the Café Royale (coffee, Cognac, and cream. It’s served hot), as well as Martinis and Manhattans running rampant.
The wine list will feature local producers like Lyons Will, Tellurian, and The Wine Farm. And Champagne will come from boutique growers which includes Chartogne-Taillet, and Agrapart, and larger producers Billecart-Salmon, and Krug.
Bar Margaux will open on Monday 1 July.
