DIY A Good Night’s Sleep At Melbourne’s Upcoming ‘Bunnings Hotel’

You’d be hard-pressed to find a weekend where I’m not at Bunnings buying things I definitely do not need—aside from the sausage in bread that is.

This week it was announced that there’ll be a new Mercure Hotel built in Doncaster for the princely sum of $70M, with one huge twist, it’s going to be built above an epic new two-storey Bunnings Warehouse.

“We identified a need for Bunnings in the Doncaster area and this site provided an opportunity to build something in line with Manningham Council’s vision for Doncaster Hill,” Bunnings acting general manager property Garry James told news.com.au.

The hotel will feature 183 rooms over six floors, with a restaurant, rooftop pool—which should have some epic views—and a fitness centre.

The Bunnings Warehouse will have 180 team members when it opens, so it could almost fill up the hotel all by itself. Construction of the site is expected to create 700 jobs.

Initially, the project was pitched as an apartment complex on top of the Bunnings—the dream—before the local council amended the permit to include the construction of a hotel.

This Frankenstein’s Monster of a project is expected to open in late-2021.

The line-up for this year's free St Kilda Festival has just been announced, read who's headlining here.
