Meatballs & Sons Opens Today!

By Ella Pleasant - 11 Apr 2014

Come one, come all, to the opening of a new Fitzroy local with balls.

Brunswick Street's first meatball-dedicated restaurant, Meatballs & Sons, is opening its doors TODAY!

As the name would suggest, it's all about the glorious balls. Meatballs & Sons place a contemporary twist on the classic dish, taking the humble meatball on a trip around the world. There's everything from a tandoori chicken ball, served with homemade raita, mango chutney and pappadums, to a Mexican spiced beef affair with chipotle chilli sauce and tostadas. While there'll be international flavours to dabble in, they still feature the classic Nonna-approved meatball, their glorious slow-braised beef with oozing boccocini centre sure to please.

Those on a low-fat, low-ball diet need not have a low-fun meal: salads such as the house-smoked snapper with pomegranate seeds, avocado and sun-ripened tomato score points for both health and flavour. Other non-ball options include ribs, sliders and salt 'n pepper squid. All are equally delicious.

It's all good, wholesome food at it's finest; everything's made from scratch, the meat is organic, grass-fed and free range, and produce is sourced from less than 500 kilometres away (the herbs are grown on site!).

Drinks-wise, there's a succinct, unpretentious wine list, a stellar collection of international and craft beers and a ripper old school cocktail menu. The real standout is the section of house-made soft drinks, including flavours like pressed cherry and basil crush…yummo!

Meatball & Sons also has a retail offering on the way, meaning you can pick up their delicious meatballs, sauces and fresh pasta in the not too distant future. They'll also start delivering in May, so you can enjoy their saucy, bally goodness from the comfort of your own home.

As well as balls, they've got heart – Meatballs & Sons is partnering with The Big Issue for Making the World Go Round, a charitable foundation that helps the disadvantaged obtain shelter, food and education. Every time you eat, they donate. So you better get chomping, people!
