Fellow Jilly Cooper lovers, gather round! Next weekend may give you the chance to find your very own Rupert-Cambell Black, as the Melbourne International Horse Trials again kick off in the picturesque Werribee Park grounds.
Over four action and pretty-pony-packed days, our country's finest horsemen and women will compete at MIHT for national and international representation in what can best be described as an equine triathlon (minus the lime green lycra). There's dressage (horsey ballet), cross-country (a test of endurance that involves navigating an obstacle course at break neck speed), and my personal favourite, show jumping, rounding out the four-day equestrian extravaganza.
If that doesn't already have you whinnying with excitement, perhaps the lure of fine food and wine will sweeten the deal, with food trucks and a licensed bar on site throughout the long weekend.
You don't even have to be a hardcore equine enthusiast to have a ball at the Melbourne International Horse Trials. MIHT is also the perfect opportunity to stroll around the gorgeous Werribee Mansion surrounds (heck, why not spend a night or two at the Werribee Mansion Hotel!), ogle the spectacular Victoria State Rose Garden, and kick back and enjoy the Indian summer we've been having (touch wood).
So, gather your friends and family (or borrow a pony-loving child) this long weekend, pack a picnic and some plonk and head to the Melbourne International Horse Trials.
