Pimp My Pizza at Lucky Coq & Bimbos

By Hannah Valmadre - 07 Jul 2014

Do you feel as if you've been overlooked one too many times for the MasterChef kitchen? Are you an expert at flavour and texture combinations for pizza toppings? Or are your food creations so far out they often have people questioning you at first, but they always end up coming back for more? Well here's your chance to get your culinary creativity on the map, or at least on a menu!

The masters of cheap and delicious pizza in Melbourne, Lucky Coq and Bimbo Deluxe, are at it again with their annual Pimp My Pizza competition.

At $4 a pop for a whole pizza (if you go at the right time), it's quite understandable that there are a few devotees out there who have gone through the Bimbo's menu three times over. Not to take anything away from their spiced lamb Agnello pizza, or the richness of their mascarpone-topped Salmone, but the Pimp My Pizza competition is a great chance to be inventive and experimental. Go on, leave your doughy-soft comfort zone and try something new.

First things first, you need to register you pizza design via the Pimp My Pizza Facebook page. From there, you need to 'pimp out' your pizza like it's going out of fashion. Think social media campaigns, viral videos, write a song about it, set up a tasting stall at your local market; however you chose to do it is completely up to you. For those looking to use Instagram to document their spruiking skills, use #pmp2014 and let the fans flock. Word on the street is that there will be some celebrity entrants for this year's Pimp My Pizza competition, so be prepared to go head to head with some VIPs.

The five best pizza P.I.M.Ps will have their creation featured on the menu at both Bimbo Deluxe and Lucky Coq for one month, and receive $1000, which is to be split 50/50 with the charity of their choice. But the battle isn't over yet folks, during that month it will be up to you to keep plugging your pizza to the public if you want to be the overall winner. The pizza that sells the most during that month will receive an additional $1000, again to be split with the charity of their choice, and their glory will live on with their pizza staying on the menu for the following month.

Past winners of the illustrious Pimp My Pizza competition include 'The Hangover Cure' – chicken, bacon, avocado, tallegio, rosemary and Caesar dressing, and the 'Fig Me Pumpkin' – Napoli sauce, rocket, pumpkin, goats cheese, figs and pistachio.  Sounds good? Think you can do better? Registrations open on July 14 at the Pimp My Pizza Facebook page. May the best pizza pie win!
