The doona’s back on the bed. You just realised you own five coats that look pretty much exactly the same. And the supermarket is fresh out of peaches. Yep, Melbourne winter is back.
QV are deciding to embrace the cold and the drizzle this year. They’re transforming the venue into a giant Scandinavian winter village, including roaring fires, free food, whisky cocktails and a build-your-own s’mores station. Sub-zero temperatures and pickled herring not so much (there’s only so far you can push a theme).
Here’s how it’s going to work. Kicking off on Friday 18 May, QV will unleash a program of winter-themed events. There’ll be a new VR paragliding experience from the guys at Rapid Films (expect to be flying 2000ft above the Swiss Alps), a fire-pit where you can toast marshmallows, steaming cocktails from the guys at Teeling Whiskey and live music from rising star Tayla Thomas and dreamy singer-songwriter Emma Yarosh.
In fact, live music will be a big feature on each of the following Friday night programs. A lot of the food and drink will be free too, depending on which night you go. From 24 – 27 May there’s even gonna be a pop-up après-ski bar serving spiced pear mulled wine.
Melbourne’s always had a bit of a Scandinavian fetish. Now all we need’s the snow and the good cheekbones.
When: Friday 18 May – Sunday 10 June
