Fancy-pants celebrity chef Shannon Bennett, of Vue de Monde fame, has just announced he has plans in the works to open his own line of burger bars following success at the Sydney International Airport.
Dubbed ‘Benny Burger’ after his father, Bennett’s new venture has been open in Sydney since April, where he has delivered bespoke and organic ‘ethical’ burgers for travellers from around the world. Having been given the green light by burger-lovers, three new venues in Melbourne have been announced to open starting as early as December of this year.
This includes a site at 430 Little Collins Street, which is due early December, and sites at the Rialto on Collins Street and at 95 Swan Street in Richmond to open in halfway through 2017.
This move is a step away from the tweezer-focused fine dining that has built his reputation (alongside the exorbitant prices) at Vue de Monde. However, his decision seems to be remarkably on trend, with Neil Perry’s Burger Project and Shane Delia’s Biggie Smalls also recently emerging onto the burger scene and into our grubby hands these past two years.
Organic grass-fed beef and potatoes grown near the Puffing Billy have peaked our interest already, but we’ll have to wait a while before Bennett delivers the goods at the end of the year.
