South-siders, hold hands, form a circle and rejoice because the food trucks are a comin’! Yep, for the next five weeks (and potentially longer depending on council permits), Elsternwick’s back streets are being transformed into The Southside Social, aka a unique space to dine with friends as you dig into a delicious toastie, mammoth burger and well, a whole lotta other glorious food too!
The mastermind behind The Southside Social is none other than TOASTA’s Rebecca Feingold. The toasted sandwich champion saw a huge gap in the offering for food trucks in the south and wanted to find somewhere different for people to hang out and eat and drink.
“We all know the north and west dominate the food truck landscape and with the strict regulations by the councils it often make it difficult for trucks to trade in various new locations. Elsternwick has such an eclectic mix of people and is a real hub of the south and what we're offering is something that would really appeal to such a diverse demographic,” says Feingold.
The Southside Social will play host to a revolving roster of Melbourne food trucks including TOASTA, Mr Burger, White Guy Cooks Thai, Soul Kitchen Wood Fired Pizza, The Brûlée Cart and Danger Dogs, with more trucks expected to roll in as the weeks go on. Expect variety, quality and a brand new locale to devour your fave food truck specialties.
Have a few drinks from the Pink Lady Cider Bar and play a little ping-pong to work off the food. You’ll find plenty of seating, music, blankets, heaters and mulled wine to keep warm while you're getting your mittens on the delicious offerings at The Southside Social. Plus, there’s a bit of an East London vibe going on with the weather and crowd at the moment too!
“The food truck industry is evolving and we all know Melbournians know good food. We have so many ideas improve the space and although time is limited, we're giving it our all to create something that, although is temporary, is very unique and very special.”
The Southside Social is located at 15-19 Gordon Street Elsternwick, open Wednesday—Friday nights from 5.30pm–9pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm onwards.
