Now that we’re all grown up (for the most part), we’re all looking for ways to get moving that aren’t necessarily traditional, aka boring or difficult. And now that it's that time of the year that the sun shines more than usual, you can finally soak it all up and have a stack of fun while you're doing so.

Whether it's a triathlon series, a muddy seven-kilometre obstacle course or some kind of adrenaline rush in between, lucky for us, Melbourne has a bunch of action-packed activities happening all summer long. Check out your guide for your ultimate action-packed summer in Melbourne.

November

The 5K Foam Fest

However you choose to tackle the Foam Fest it entirely up to you, as long as you have fun. The course includes the world’s largest inflatable water slide, sip and slides and mud pits. And if one thing’s for sure, this one-of-a-kind obstacle course will have you foamy, muddy, wet and everything in between.

Hit The Gym

Talking yourself into doing a workout or heading into the gym is not always an easy feat. And whether you like to get down to business with your workout or prefer to make fun your priority, (or somewhere in between), we can all agree that post-workout rush of endorphins makes it worth it every time.

December

End Of Year Run Party At Albert Park Lake

Whichever way you choose to enjoy it, the Albert Park Lake track is one of Melbourne’s finest. You can get involved in the End of Year Run Party to try and smash a personal best or just to take in all of the serenity.

Carman’s Fun Run

Carman’s Women’s Fun Run proudly supports Breast Cancer Network Australia. And whether you walk, run or just have fun, Carman’s Women’s Fun Run is all about getting together with friends and family and having good times. You can get involved in the five-kilometre, 10 kilometre, half marathon or girls' mini-run options.

Melbourne City Sprint

This month Spartan Australia are bringing back their City Sprint event. The City Sprint features an epic festival area and 20 epic obstacles over a five-kilometre course, right outside the MCG.

Go Indoor Skydiving

iFLY, an American extreme sports company, has opened its slick-looking indoor skydiving centres across the world and Melbourne has finally joined the list. So if skydiving out of an actual plane isn't really your thing, then iFLY is for you. The facility comprises of a centralised 14ft (3.65m) diameter-wide vertical glass wind tunnel that creates a freefall sensation very similar to jumping out of a plane (without the risk of actually jumping out of a plane).

January

2XU Triathlon Series

January brings a fresh start as well as 2XU’s Triathlon Series, also known as Victoria’s longest-running triathlon series. They’ve got a few different options including the holy trinity that is swimming, cycling and running. You can sign up for including five different race distances, as well as the fun series and kids’ series too

Portsea Twilight

Bass Strait on one side, Port Melbourne Bay on the other, one of the most ideal settings to soak in the fresh start of a new year. For Portsea Twilight 2020, you can opt for a four-kilometre or eight-kilometre track, followed by a well deserved post-run beer or wine. There’ll also be live music, twilight yoga as well as a warm-up and drinks stations along the way.

Muddy As Hell: Hot As Hell

If you’ve ever dreamt of getting muddy and completing a hectic seven-kilometre obstacle course with over 60 obstacles, sign yourself up to Muddy As Hell. If you can anticipate anything, just imagine the most mud you’ve ever seen in one place.

Get Bouncing At Bounce’s X-Park Zone

You’ve probably been to Bounce for one of their free bounce sessions. But you probably haven’t experienced their X-Park Adventure Challenge Course, inspired by American Ninja Warrior. The course is essentially a freestyle playground comprised of 15 different obstacles, each designed to challenge you and your body in the area of adventure training. Other than feeling like a legit Ninja Warrior, there are heaps of real-life benefits of tackling the course. You’ll be developing core strength, promoting cardiovascular endurance and increased overall fitness and stamina – and the best part is, you’ll be having too much fun to even notice.
