This week in Sydney is all about making the best of a bad situation—ICYMI we’re talking about winter. Food is (and always will be) the answer, with comfort food (and draaaanks), pasta (and more pasta), ramen, whisky, and our old mate wine to wash it all down.
Here are 5 awesome things to do in Sydney this week.
Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta Winter Classics
After putting us in one serious food coma last year, Da Orazio are gearing up to do it all again. Your favourite Italian dishes will be on show for the next 5 weeks; and yes we’re talking aaaaall of the pasta, so you can taste-tour your way through Italy without leaving Bondi. From tagliatelle Bolognese, to a spaghetti alla carbonara, and that’s just the start of the deliciousness.
When: until Sunday 16 July, 5pm daily
Where: Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta
Monday 26 June
Yoga At The Calyx
This season’s miserable weather, comfort food (#worthit) and sleep-ins haven’t been conducive to that New Year, new you plan we made six months ago. That’s where winter yoga at the Calyx comes in. Ease your way into that exercise life with downward dogs in the Royal Botanic Gardens’ stunning floral glasshouse. Combining the breathing techniques of Hatha yoga with strong poses, yogi Svenja will take you through an hour of holistic exercise so you can get back to nailing every other aspect of your life.
Where: Royal Botanic Gardens
When: Every Monday, from 7.30am
Tuesday 27 June
The Ramen Project At Osaka Trading Co.
Ahh, ramen. The ultimate comfort food, especially if you’re on a budget. But this isn’t the packet kind that was once your staple diet during university; we’re talking handcrafted noodles and broth from the experts at Osaka Trading Co. Trust us when we say there is nothing better than a steaming bowl of soupy goodness on a cold, wintery day. Wrap your laughing gear around a tasty twist on the classic chicken flavour, with crispy bean sprouts and shallots, tender chashu pork belly, a soft boiled egg, and noodles of course. Or treat yourself to some spicy ground pork deliciousness, with roasted sesame and chilli bean paste, topped with seasonal greens. Need we say more?
Where: Osaka Trading Co.
When: Mon to Thurs, 12pm-2.30pm, and Mon 5.30pm-9.30pm
Wednesday 28 June
OTTO Wine Dinner
The Wine Dinner Series at OTTO Ristorante is back for another winter, bringing the finest wine and Italian food pairings from wineries right across the country. To give you a taste think creamy, sauce-filled pasta dishes washed down with a premium red (or white) from Thick as Thieves winery in Victoria’s Yarra Valley (and that’s just for starters). We won’t judge you for putting in a solid effort and working your way down the list, price includes canapes, a four-course dinner menu, and (of course) matched wines.
