After growing concerns around public health, several of the Gold Coast’s major events have been cancelled.
As it stands, the World Surfing League events, Gold Coast Film Festival and the Byron Bay Bluesfest, have all been cancelled. Splendour In The Grass has been postponed until October, plus Home Of The Arts (HOTA) have also announced they’ll be closing from now until the end of the March.
The news comes as public gatherings of over 500 people are banned across Australia and penalties are put in place for those who breach isolation terms in Queensland, which should see anyone returning to the country from overseas enter into a mandatory two-week isolation period.
Simple measures—like washing your hands and social distancing—can be taken to minimise your own risk, along with the risk posed to those around you. While locals across the Gold Coast start to lockdown for staycations at home, the best thing we can do is take practical steps to look after ourselves and each other so that we can get through this together—and we have no doubt we will.
