Spending long days at the beach, relaxing in the sun, sinking a few coldies—summer is looking good. Chuck the Gold Coast’s coolest new brewpub into the mix and we’re settling in for a banger summer.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock you would have heard about the opening of the Gold Coast’s first fully functional brewpub, Precinct Brewing Co. If you haven’t heard about it, you’re sure to notice it—the colourful, graffiti-covered entrance on Christine Avenue boasts a vibrant kaleidoscope of dinosaurs, rainbows and snakes and ladders.
Step into the old workshop-turned-brewery and you’re greeted with a contemporary, breezy interior just inviting you to pass many a night chatting with old (and new) friends. Precinct oozes industrial-chic vibes; the impressive metallic pour tanks contrast the timber beamed, open-air ceilings and polished concrete floors. Eclectic artwork and graffiti adorn the walls, while lush greenery cascades down from the high ceilings.
Refurbished church pews fill the communal watering hole—we’re predicting plenty of confessions will be told over bevvies, while the bar-style tables are perfect for intimate catch-ups. You’ll want to sink a few coldies after a day in the surf and the bike racks nestled in the corner add to the welcoming, local vibes.
Precinct Brewing Co. is the latest venture of Scott Imlach, the mastermind behind an epic list of Gold Coast favs, including Hideaway Kitchen & Bar, Bine Bar & Dining, Mr Hizola’s, Nightjar, Nightcap and The Backyard Cafe. He’s teamed up with an all-star crew including head brewer Jeremy James, who has been working at Stone & Wood for the past four years, so you know he’s got something good a’brewin.
Now, what you’ve all been waiting for—the beer. Precinct is a fully functional brewery, with all beer made from scratch onsite and boasts twelve taps and four direct pour tanks. We did the math, that’s 16 different bars on tap at once. Favourites like XPA, rice lager and Open Borders pale ale grace the menu or froth over unique flavours—does mango kettle sour tickle your tastebuds? All of Precinct’s beers are lovingly brewed with a focus on the quality and provenance of the locally sourced ingredients. If you’re not a beer drinker, don’t worry because you’re spoilt for options with a boutique vegan wine list, Hard FIZZ seltzer, local spirits and the oh-so-trendy Mr Consistent cocktails.
The standout beer-friendly menu will have you drooling and is perfect for pairing with a pint. Start with crispy sumac-dusted baby calamari, wagyu beef bao with pickled cucumber or tuck into fried crispy zucchini with chilli tomato salsa. Gourmet pizzas are Precinct’s speciality and are perfect for sharing (if you’re willing to share the deliciousness). Think sweet potato, zucchini, caramelised onion, ricotta and pine nuts or chow down on slow-cooked wagyu beef, peppers, provolone and rocket.
Mark your calendars—a new beer will be released at 4pm every Friday so we know where we’ll be spending our Friday arvos. Psst, we’ll let you in on a secret; Black Hops Brewery and Grandad Jack’s Craft Distillery are within easy walking distance so you’re all set to drink up and embark on a craft beer crawl that definitely won’t leave you thirsty.
