Nicole Warne, better known as Gary Pepper Girl, has been blowing up the blogosphere since she launched her Gary Pepper Girl blog and vintage online store in 2009, and has since gone on to be the first blogger to sign with IMG's talent division, amass over 600,000 plus Instagram followers, and make women the world over totally jealous of her wardrobe and globe-trotting antics. We sat down with Miss Pepper and talked spring style, a month of fashion weeks, and how to take a winning shot in Insta'.
TUL: Describe in one sentence what you do for work?
TUL: How did you get started in fashion?
I've always had a love and appreciation for fashion but it wasn't until I finished high school that I decided to pursue it full-time. I started interning at publications such as Grazia and Harper's Bazaar Australia when I was studying and working full-time.
TUL: What's the significance of Gary Pepper?
Gary Pepper started as an online vintage store and personal blog which I opened on the very same day as each other. My store's personality or what I created as the "Gary Pepper Girl" was a Japanese harajuku-inspired girl who loved wear loud clothes in bright colours. As I sold vintage womenswear and accessories I liked that Gary Pepper was a males name and contradicted the fact this was a brand for women. I wanted it to be quirky and hopefully a name people would remember.
TUL: What are a few key pieces every woman should be wearing this spring?
A pair of simple strapped sandals, a flute skirt with a playful ruffled hemline or a sheer chiffon top. Simple and sophisticated for spring.
TUL: Which new season trends are you excited to try this spring?
TUL: Your Instagram star is on the up and up; do you have any tips for taking a great snap on Instagram?
TUL: Where's your favourite city in the world?
Such a hard question. Visually, I love Paris. Work-wise, I love New York. Endless possibilities await there and I thrive off that electric atmosphere and people's fast paced work ethic.
TUL: Best way to spend $50?
I'd spend it on a bright lipstick to add instant glamour and a few drinks for a night-out with my girlfriends.
TUL: Best way to spend $500?
I love investing in timeless and versatile pieces that will last season after season so I'd buy some spring/summer essentials. A little white dress, a classic pair of pumps, a wide brimmed hat and a fun pair of sunglasses.
