Been wondering what's on in Melbourne during these dreary weeks? Great news – Listers, any list that includes roast meats, whiskey and hot chocolates has got to warm you up. Check out our list of the 5 best things to do in Melbourne this week.
Yarra Valley Chocolaterie’s Hot Chocolate Festival
Now in its third year, the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie’s annual celebration of everyone’s favourite winter drink has kicked off and will run throughout August. The Chocolaterie will take the classic combination of chocolate and milk to hot new heights with 31 different flavours over 31 days. Yum!
The Chocolaterie’s Belgian and French chocolatiers have created a line up of hot concoctions to warm your souls on the coldest of winter’s days. Inspired by premium dark, milk or white chocolate, seasonal ingredients, items from their kitchen garden and innovative flavour combinations, they’re bringing their chocolaty A-game. Neon life drawing
The Creative folk at Work-Shop have really outdone themselves this time, offering up a neon life drawing class. Intrigued? Models will be painted with neon paint by award winning artists in preparation for Work-Shoppers to then get creative during a life drawing class. Photographers and videographers are also welcome to come along and work their magic as well. All drawing materials are provided. The clincher? You’ll be handed a glow in the dark cocktail on arrival.
Game, Guts and Off Cuts
Vegetarians vacate—it's an all-meat affair between two of Melbourne's premiere protein purveyors. The team behind one of Melbourne’s favourite pubs, The Last Jar, have been making waves this year. As a result, The Middle Park Hotel team, not wanting to be outdone, have thrown down the meaty gauntlet for the ultimate cook-off. Three rounds, six dishes and drinks to match, you won’t want to miss it.
New York PDT pop-up at Black Pearl
Ranked among the best bars in the world, New York’s PDT (short for Please Don’t Tell) and its dynamic duo bar team, Jim Meehan and Jeff Bell, will transform one of Melbourne’s coolest cocktail spaces, Black Pearl, into a pop-up. Lucky patrons will be treated to world class cocktails and speakeasy style dining that’s in a league of it’s own. Open from the 6th-9th of August, each evening will host three sittings. If you weren’t slippery enough to grab a ticket, you’ll need to beg, borrow or steal yourself a reservation.
Festival of Whiskey
Whiskey is having a bit of a moment in Melbourne, though we’ve got our fingers and toes crossed that it’s more than a moment. Regardless, The Kilburn is hosting a week-long Festival of Whiskey. A seven day journey through the Whiskey flavours of Scotland, Ireland and Japan, the program is chock full of events including a flight night, a session on barrel ageing, and an opportunity to meet the makers. Get yourself some tickets and we’ll see you there for a tipple or two!
