If you’ve ever been to Greece, you’ll know that Greek cuisine is all about consumption of fresh wholesome food in the company of good family and friends.

Did #Europe2015 clog up your Insta feed last year? While those guys spent thousands of dollars on airfares, you can become a cultured Greek foodie right here in our beloved BNE. Check out these plate-smashingly delightful dishes from the best Greek restaurants around Brisbane.

#1 Chocolate Loukoumades at Zeus Street Greek

South Bank

Better known as Greek honey puffs, Zeus Street Greek pair these sweet bite sized Greek doughnuts with drizzled chocolate and crushed walnuts. Enough said.

#2 The Mytilini Platter at Greek on Cav

Coorparoo

You’ll need a solid appetite for this one at Greek on Cav but it’s a great way to sample a variety of Greek delicacies. The platter comes with dip and pita bread, haloumi, dolmades, crumbed stuffed mushrooms, grilled garlic prawn skewers, crispy lemon pepper calamari, chicken souvlaki skewers, Yiayia’s Greek meatballs, Greek village salad and baked lemon and oregano potatoes. If you’ve still got room after devouring the savoury stuff, the platter comes with honey puffs finished with Ouzo ice cream!

#3 Pork Yiros and Feta Chips at Yiros Shop

Yiros Shop | Cannon Hill and James Street

Take a bite of a traditional Greek yiros (meat on a rotisserie) on a soft Greek pita filled with pork, tomato, onion, parsley, tzatziki and chips at the Yiros Shop. Make sure you also grab a serving of crispy hot chips with crumbled feta and oregano.

#4 Syndyasmos Ton Thilon at Lefkas Taverna

West End

Translation: a combination of dips including tarama, tzatziki, skordalia, melintzanosalata and hommus served with a basket of pita bread. Lefkas Taverna dips are divine and the pita is so fluffy! The dips are the perfect segue to the paidakia, which are grilled lamb cutlets served with heavenly lemon potatoes.

#5 Meze Plates at The Greek Club

West End

Meze is a traditional Greek way to enjoy a selection of hot and cold dishes designed to share. Order a selection of octopothi tis skaras (grilled octopus), maritha (whole crispy fried white bait), calamari, haloumi and pita with dips. That’s just a small sample of what’s available at Odyseey Taverna at the Greek Club. There are plenty more meze plates to choose from!

#6 Chicken Souvlaki at Little Greek Taverna

Little Greek Taverna have nailed the chicken souvlaki. Always tender, juicy and served with the perfect amount of olive oil, lemon and herbs. The Greek salad is made from fresh ingredients and is a great healthy option.
