Another week bites the dust and that means you’d better be strategising how to make the best use of your precious weekend.
No plans yet? We got you. ‘Cause another week also means another swag of fab new joints to check out. Ah Gold Coast, how did we get so lucky?
Greenhouse Canteen and Bar
You might remember we helped spread the news about this exciting development back in February. After a handful of exclusive pop-up events in the meantime, the “cruelty free and killing it” crew officially opened the doors on Wednesday. This is big news peeps! Regardless if you’re vegetarian or not, if you appreciate fresh food and quality ingredients, you’re going to adore the stunning plant-based dishes the maestros will be bringing out of the kitchen at Greenhouse Canteen. Trust us! Greenhouse Canteen will be first open evenings only, Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm, and once they get settled, hours will extend to lunch and breakfast.
Where: Corner Mountain View Avenue and Gold Coast Highway, Miami
So new in fact, this café flung open its doors only yesterday! While we’ve not had a chance to take a peek ourselves just yet, we already like their cheeky sense of humour, naming their Southport hangs Randy Wallhole. What the? It’s part art gallery too, so you can gaze at some colourful original art creations over your morning brew or brunch. A fab side project by the innovative team at 40/40 Creative, Randy’s (haha, love it) will be open Monday to Saturday (read: closed Sundays) from 6:30am—3pm.
Where: 21 Nind Street, Southport
Ball Boy Meatballs
The same crafty folk that brought us bountiful bagels at Skull and Bones Espresso, are now nailing the art form of homemade meatballs. Ball Boy Meatballs has been open for a few weeks now, so we’re just gently reminding you to CHECK ‘EM OUT (okay, now we’re yelling), if you haven’t yet already. They make meatballs on pasta, subs, sliders, and there’s even balls for vegos. Plus, their waffle hash and exclusive macaron ice cream sandwiches are worth the trip alone. Open nights only at this stage, 5—9:30pm Wednesday to Sunday.
Where: 2475 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach
Hungover Sunday Breakfast at Burgster
If there wasn’t already enough to love about the chill Kiwi bros bringing a swath of cool to the backstreets of Palm Beach, Burgster has recently begun opening for breakfast—on Sundays only! Knowing all too well what it’s like to have a rip roaring hangover on a Sunday, whether it be self-inflicted or just from the pressure of life itself, Burgster has carefully curated a menu that’s totally worth dragging yourself out of bed for. Think: baked eggs with slow-cooked chic pea, zucchini, squash, and haloumi, or the HELT, their take on the brekkie burger with champagne ham, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, and habernero mayo piled on a brioche bun. What about creamy Marsala mushrooms with chorizo, thyme, and rocket on sourdough? Yep, officially drooling. Hungover Sunday breakfast is served from 7—11am (on Sundays, duh).
Where: 4 Phillipine Parade, Palm Beach
We think it goes without saying that if this wee gem isn’t at the top of your to-do list, well it most certainly should be. Little Mermaid, a whimsical café cum restaurant cum cocktail bar graced us with her presence last week, and is already garnering a faithful following among Mermaid Beach locals and beyond. If the lust-worthy décor details don’t get you, the watermelon pizza and peach rose sangria certainly will.
Where: 2557 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach
Home Delivery from Gemellini
Okay, we hear you. So, your preferred use of the weekend is curdled up on the sofa with the cat purring at your feet and your latest Netflix obsession programmed for non-stop play? Lucky for you, one of the best new restaurants on the Gold Coast, those gorgeous brothers at Nobby Beach’s Gemellini have just this week launched their home delivery service. Yep, residents of Nobby Beach, Mermaid Beach, Mermaid Waters, Miami, and Burleigh Heads can now devour Gemellini’s epically authentic pizzas and pastas without leaving the house. Their takeaway menu will be online this weekend, but we reckon you should go straight for the meaty goodness of the Carne pizza.
