With so many amazing and unique restaurants to choose from on the Gold Coast, make date night compulsory! Whether you’re on the prowl or in a loved-up relationship there’s always a good excuse to treat someone special. If you need a little inspiration, here are our top picks for celebrating your love (and love of food) on the Gold Coast.
A cosy fit out and quality modern Australian food is the perfect combo for a special date with your love. Well, that and a great location with top-notch service. There will be no awkward moments here with tricky cuisines, hipster chairs or bustling posers—Restaurant Labart lets your interests in each other shine while you dine. Head to Labart for a date of casual class, uninterrupted conversation and delectable seasonal dishes with matching wines. We recommend opting for the set menu ($65) with matching wines ($55).
Moody and intimate, this laid-back yet refined gem is tucked along Griffith Street in Cooly making it the perfect spot for Southern Coasters looking to wine and dine. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 3pm, this sweet spot is lined with grey concrete-wash walls and white exposed brick. Serving up modern-Italian style deliciousness on share plates, or as light snacks, opt for a seat at the marble wine bar or get cosy in one of their comfortable booths. Tuck-in to Tasca’s incredible gnocchi, sip on their eclectic cocktails and appreciate their soft mood lighting—a winner for first dates.
The Roosevelt Lounge
Dimly lit with red velvet booths and old-fashioned cocktails shaken by silk-vested-bartenders await at this sneaky speakeasy in Broadbeach. Sway to the jazzy tunes of a live saxophonist, recline in a studded leather cigar chair and take advantage of dark corners—The Roosevelt Lounge is where old-world romance is found. Channel your best Robert DeNiro face and break out your flapper dresses (figuratively speaking) for a date that may just turn into an all-nighter.
Quirky, nostalgic and bursting with good vibes, Rosella’s is the perfect spot for first-time Tinder dates or those ‘we’re-mates-but-there-might-be-something-there’ interests. Pull up a stool at the timber bar or slip into one of three booths on offer and have a chuckle about the budgie smuggler art work. Hungry? You can tuck into a Vegemite jaffle, Roo Carpaccio and Bug Sambo if the vibe is dinky-di. Wash it down with everything from a Zooper Dooper-inspired cocktail to a tinnie of VB.
With arguably the best view on the Coast—think sweeping ocean to glittering skyline—the inviting pastel pink and mint interiors of The Tropic is topped only by the tasty menu. Light and airy with a soundtrack of whitewash against the rocks below, soak up the salty sunset on the terrace with a Tropini cocktail then recline in the plush indoors with a hearty rib-eye to share. This revered extension of Burleigh hotspot The Pavilion, is the place to be seen.
De Vito Waterfront
Amore, woah-oh! Not only do Italians romanticise food, turns out vocal passion is also on the menu at De Vito Waterfront. Treat your date to dinner with a difference with The Singing Chef serenading diners as the water underneath the Sundale Bridge laps the banks of the Nerang River. Warm up with mouth-watering pastas like the Pappardelle Ragout and get the chills from chef David De Vito’s pitch perfect Pavarotti style tunes.
Nineteen At The Star
If you’re looking to wow your love then you’ll want to head straight to top of the Darling Hotel and slide into a plush chair at Nineteen. Boasting excellent service and one of the most expensive (and tastiest) steaks on the Coast at $240, you’ll want to coincide your visit here with pay day. With stunning views out to the coastline and the sparkling cityscape, you’ll score big brownie points with this date idea.
Aloha Dining And Bar
This cheeky, tiki dining haven and bar is sure to put the fun back into date nights. Swing in and nestle among the palms. Perch on bamboo resort-style chairs and take your time sampling the cocktails because you’ve got all night to order (closing time is 1am). With Aloha's kitchen open late every night, you can skip the pressure of choosing a dish—get into the likes of a Coconut Kingfish Poke Bowl and Kahlua Pork Belly with coconut rice whenever you are ready. With drinks like Mr Boombastic (AKA Mr Guava-Lover), Aloha is sure to make your date one to remember.
The North Room
If you’re keen to impress, this place has you covered, think op-notch service, an innovative menu and moody, romantic lighting. Only taking 28 diners at a time, The North Room organise a set tasting menu to delight to the senses ($64 per person), or you can choose from the ever-changing seasonal menu when you get there. Struggling to decide? Let co-owner Shannon Stewert help you out (your date will thank you). Intimate and tailored, this is one to book in advance for a special date night occasion.
