Prepare to soak up the luxe cool vibes of LA at Burleigh’s hottest new cafe, Palm Springs. The breezy, Cali-inspired eatery is giving a fresh, revamped face to the site of iconic Thai favourite, Siam Orchid, and has already set tongues wagging in the hospitality scene.
Step into the bright, modern two-storey cafe and you’re greeted by a crisp, white interior complemented by cool mint tones. Funky chandeliers hang from the ceiling, clusters of cactuses reminiscent of the California desert adorn the bright space and high arched doors let the balmy breeze flow through.
Run by three intrepid Burleigh locals, Palm Springs is the coolest new spot we didn’t know we needed and the vibrant interior is perfect for pimpin’ your Insta. You’ll want to sink into the sage green seats hugging the whitewashed walls, indulge in the plethora of deliciousness and let the day pass you by in this dreamy haven.
Around 80 to 100 diners can sit inside or venture downstairs to the desert-style garden and sprawl under umbrellas or lax out and enjoy a bite to eat in the alfresco garden area. There are some parking spots under the building—a rare commodity in the bustling area just off the Gold Coast Highway—but we sure don’t mind a short walk so we can chow down on the delectable dishes Palm Springs is serving up.
Putting a Cali-cool twist on brekky and lunch favourites, the standout menu is set to have you drooling. Think delectable noms like the halloumi and egg burger, with grilled halloumi, rocket, avo, tomato jam and an oozing fried egg on a soft milk bun. Tuck into the Cali Breakfast Burrito; an indulgent combo of chorizo sausage, egg, cheddar cheese, avo salsa, black beans and pickled jalapeno all wrapped up in a tortilla.
Take it slow and let your brunch plans become lunch so you have an excuse to dig into one of Palm Springs’ signature lunch options like the Palms wholesome bowl; a nourishing bowl boasting black bean hummus, brown rice, tomato salsa, house pickles, charred corn and topped with a soft boiled egg and mojo dressing. Or sink your teeth into a fried hot chicken burger with a finger-lickingly delicious combo of buttermilk fried chicken, pickles, honey hot sauce, lettuce and mayo which will keep you coming back for more.
House-made pastries and baked goods temptingly on display pair perfectly with a coffee, made on Therefore Coffee’s signature smooth blend and served in oh-so-cute handmade clay mugs. If caffeine isn’t your thing, there is a huge range of cold-pressed juices (think fresh combos like passionfruit, pineapple, orange and coconut) which can all be made cheeky with a shot of vodka.
Speaking of booze, they’ve perfected the Californesque cocktails, serving up all your favourite classics and specialising in margaritas with zesty flavours like coco, chilli or a Palms classic. Fire up the group chat - sipping a bevy on the breezy deck overlooking a Burleigh sunset is your next weekend plan sorted.
