We all know vinyl is back. And so it should be! What’s not to love about that beautiful crackling static as the needle prepares to spin your tune, or the warm-as-the-sun sounds that dance from the speaker?

Which brings us to Record Store Day 2019, a celebration of all that is vinyl. It’s a worldwide event that celebrates the unique culture and community of independent record stores around the globe. In fact, there are now Record Store Day events on nearly every continent.

Over the past twelve years it has grown into quite the occasion. Take a look at previous Record Store Day ambassadors: Josh Homme, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Jack White, Dave Grohl, Metallica and St. Vincent. And if you’re wondering who got the 2019 gig? Pearl Jam, that’s who.

The Gold Coast, as you’d expect, is also taking part thanks to Atlantis Music in Southport. They’ve got lots going on, including Gold Coast radio host Adrian ‘AJ’ Johnston on the decks from 8am, live bands, $15,000 in cash and prizes to be won, and a gold coin sausage sizzle with all proceeds heading to the Black Dog Institute in their research effort against mental illness.

So come along, get involved and support music the way it used to sound.
