Hot diggity damn, the wait is over!
One the Gold Coast’s OG food trucks, serving up soul-satisfying Kranski dogs that’ve put a spring in the step of many a market goer, has just lifted the lid on a shiny new diner at Burleigh’s Stockland Shopping Centre. So fresh in fact, they were proudly hanging the final signage when we rolled up on opening day.
For the past month, Paddy and The Wiener Haus crew have been teasing about an out-of-the-box concept for their new venture. One that’s actually IN a box, to be precise. A converted shipping container which they’ve painstakingly funked up; kitting it out with a functional kitchen, splashed with their playful bubble font logo, and completed with welcoming mascot
Dick Richard, who’s spruiking gourmet German hot dogs for all.
With plenty of room to swing their tongs, you can expect all your fave wieners, like the cheeky Monica Lewinsky, served American-style with nacho runny cheese and crumbly bacon jerky; the Hawaiian-style Magnum P.I. loaded with pineapple, bacon, sour cream, and tasty cheese; and the original Ronald, adorned with red onion, cheese, and sauerkraut, to name a few. But, it gets better.
Add to that, some experimental wiener creations via their monthly special, the addition of crinkle-cut fries with oozy nacho cheese, shakes, and yummo soda flavours—from granny smith and ginger to pink lady and raspberry, or old school creaming soda. We’re also pumped for their new signature dessert, a gelati sandwich. Probably the closest to the dessert version of a hot dog we’ve encountered. Think: three scoops of homemade gelato wedged inside a fresh and buttery Burleigh Baker-sourced croissant. Ermahgawd!
True to form, they’ve gone outta their way to cater for the needs of vegans and gluten-free wiener lovers too, with both deconstructed bun-less and meat-less wiener options holding pride of place on the menu.
This stand-alone shipping container diner is the first of its kind on the Coast (if you don’t count street food vendors in the confines of NightQuarter and espresso bar, Box). The Wiener Haus Diner is bringing some swagger and vibrancy to the outskirts of Stockland Shopping Centre and is sure to make your next shopping trip interesting. Groceries already sorted? Swing by on the way home from work, or after dark for a cheat night feed.
When Paddy and the team started out at the markets in 2013 they were averaging around 150 hot dogs a week. With the food truck and recent addition of a pop-up marquee, business has more than tripled; these days the lads average 500 wieners weekly. And now they’ve got a freakin’ permanent diner, open seven days and nights a week, well, just watch this home-grown success story soar!
What are you waiting for? Wieners for errybody.
