Just like this stunning spring weather, your calendar is about to heat up. This month is absolutely crammed with mammoth events like Oktoberfest parties, foodie soirees, film festivals and so much more. 

There’s plenty of reasons to celebrate spring this month, so read on for all the things to do on the Gold Coast this October. 

Arts Ablaze 

If you’re looking to head west and support communities following a hazardous start to the bush fire season, what better than to check out the Scenic Rim's largest art and cultural festival—Arts Ablaze. Part conference and part festival, Arts Ablaze will be staged by Scenic Rim Regional Council at the Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley. In addition to the conference schedule, the event will showcase two days of weekend festivities including live music, roving performers, market stalls, culinary delights, fashion, bespoke adult artisan workshops consisting of bamboo flute making, blacksmithing, shibori dyeing, basketry, rug making, lino printing, puppet making, silversmithing, Aboriginal art, didgeridoo making and limestone carving.

Collective Minds Exhibition By LIVIN x Robina Town Centre

In collaboration with not-for-profit local charity LIVIN, Collective Minds is a multi-artist photography exhibition that depicts mental health through the photographer’s lens. The showcase aims to support LIVIN’s vital work around breaking the stigma and opening up the conversation around mental health. All featured artworks are available to purchase via a silent online auction. 

When: Daily through to Sunday 13 October

Fright Nights At Movie World

If having the life scared out of you is your idea of a good time, then you’ll want to make your way to Movie World. Happening throughout October, Fright Nights are the perfect spooky night out. If previous events are any indication, expect terrifying mazes, panic rooms, scare precincts, live music and a ton of terrifying performers lurking around ready to scare the shiz out of you. 

When: Friday and Saturday nights through until 26 October; from 6pm

Oktoberfest On The Coast

For one glorious beer-filled day this October, Munich will descend on the Gold Coast for an official Oktoberfest fiesta. Featuring a giant beer hall, multiple bars, stages and a whole lot of great-tasting German beer—we can't think of anything better than tossing back a few steins with friends, while simultaneously munching on an oversized pork knuckle. In addition to various beers available on tap there will also be a wide variety of ciders, cocktails and wine, plus authentic German eats to help balance out all that booze you'll be drinking.

When: Saturday 5 October; 1pm to 9pm

Nobby Beach Street Fiesta 

Nobby’s first ever Street Fiesta will transform Nobby Beach’s dining precinct with buzzing entertainment, restaurant and pop-up street dining plus fabulous musical acts—celebrating all things Gold Coast with a Latin flair. Dine at any of the existing restaurants or spill out onto the streets where you can enjoy more dining options, including a bar and tapas pop-up from the team at Bine, and a taco stand from Mexicali.

Fountain Of Goose At Pacific Fair

French vodka Grey Goose are turning your French Riviera fantasies into a reality with their tres chic, inner-city escape, the “Fountain of Goose”. This world-first Grey Goose interactive brand experience is popping up at Pacific Fair from Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 October to promote the celebratory drink of summer. The bespoke build with white marble look finish, is a captivating sculptural working fountain, inspired by the brand’s luxury French heritage with its ornate European architecture. Surrounded by deck chairs and umbrellas, naturally the fountain will double as a bar and will be serving complimentary Grey Goose vodka, lime and soda mini cocktails. Hello Instagram fodder!

Jacob’s Well Food And Wine Festival

A feature event of the inaugural Horizons Shores Boat and Marine Show, the Jacob’s Well Food and Wine Festival promises three days of food sampling and ample seafood. You’re invited to browse 15 hand-picked exhibitors offering free gourmet tastings, celebrity chef cooking demos, food trucks, live music, plus a Sparkling and Seafood VIP Bar and another dubbed the Fisherman’s Smokey BBQ and Beer Bar. Boat enthusiasts and dreamers shouldn’t miss the boat show, happening concurrently.

Burleigh Comedy At Burleigh Brewing Co. 

Not content with simply serving up some of the Coast’s most epic brews, local favourite, Burleigh Brewing Co. is back with their fun comedy night. That’s right, beers and belly laughs all under the night sky = winning. So, throw back some of their ice-cold brews and relax in their deck chairs while listening to tall tales presented by Base Comedy and Gold Coast Laughs Festival. Sounds like the perfect Thursday night out to us.

When: Thursday 17 October; 6pm to 9:30pm

Tweed Artisan Food Weekend

Life’s pretty good on the Gold Coast. We get warm weather, clean beaches, delicious restaurants and some heavenly cocktail bars. But trust us, life on the Coast is about to get a whole lot sweeter, thanks to the region’s newest foodie event, Tweed Artisan Food Weekend. Our favourite neighbours are planning an unforgettable weekend of curated events, celebrating the fertile farming region that supplies so many of our markets and eateries. You’ll absolutely want to nab a ticket to events including classes at Temple Door Cooking School, Meet the Farmers lunch at Potager: A Kitchen Garden, brewery tours at Stone & Wood’s Murwillumbah brewery, Blue Ginger Picnics pop-up at the Finger Lime Farm, sugar mill tours and more. Byron Bay Film Festival 2019

The 13th Byron Bay International Film Festival, Australia’s independent showcase for cutting-edge films, documentaries and VR experiences, is back and bigger than ever. Screening 150+ films in a diverse set of venues in Byron Shire and the Tweed throughout a 10-day extravaganza of entertainment, learning and fun. Byron Bay’s most far-reaching, diverse and glamorous cultural event, the festival fuses artistry, education and innovation, enhancing our worldview and collective social dialogue through the power and storytelling of film. Gold Coast Open House 

Ever wondered what goes down inside the local radio or TV stations, old Town Hall, or some of the Coast’s most glam residential properties? Open House will see some of the Coast’s largely out-of-reach venues swing open their doors to the public for one day only. If we were you, we’d be bee-lining for a free guided tour of Metricon Stadium, Currumbin’s Wildlife Hospital, Surf World, or for the creepy-inclined, a tour of Ernst Junction Railway Tunnel. Find a full roster of properties inviting locals inside listed on the website—bookings are required in most cases.

The Grass Is Greener Music Festival

Tired of always having to trek to Byron to catch the best international superstars perform? Well, good news, because this October the Gold Coast is hosting another grassroots music festival that will save you the long drive. The Grass Is Greener is coming to Southport’s Broadwater Parklands and boasts a seriously good line up. Tune into killer performances by Peking Duk, Hermitude, Amy Shark and many more. To get you even more hyped, we’ve saved the best for last—American’s most talked about rapper right now, TYGA, will be taking the stage to headline the festival.

Unicorn Festival

From iced lattes and makeup palettes, to hair dye and inflatable pool toys—unicorn fever has literally swept the world and it appears, the Coast has caught the glittery, rainbow bug too. Not just for the kids, Carrara Markets’ Unicorn Festival is returning with market stalls, craft workshops, selfie booths, glitter makeovers, alpacas, Insta-worthy treats and smiles galore.

Buskers By The Creek

This year’s Buskers By The Creek is coming at us in full force. This free two-day, family-friendly busking bonanza sports a groovy lovefest theme in 2019 and will see over 300 incredible performers hit the foreshore of Currumbin Creek. Acts include captivating musicians, a floating skateboarding half pipe, plus circus acts, child prodigies, record breaking stunts and, of course, comedy. Bring along your good vibes, gold coins to throw to the performers and join in on the action of Buskers By The Creek.

When: Saturday 19 to Sunday 20 October; 10am to 6pm

King Of Burleigh Hill 

Free access to cart racing action on Burleigh Hill? Yes, please! Just when you thought you couldn’t do with any more reasons to host your Sunday sesh on good old Burls, King Of Burleigh Hill returns. Join the throngs of onlookers as carts dodge specially designed obstacles—kicking off at 2pm, get amongst the action with a sneaky brewskie in your side cart.

Vodafone Gold Coast 600

Start your engines! Three days of motorcar racing excellence is hitting the Coast later this month with the return of the Vodafone Gold Coast 600. Pack your earmuffs, your adrenaline tanks and an appetite for trackside pies, or kick off with the Porsche Platinum Lunch on Friday 25 October at QT Gold Coast’s glorious Bazaar. Just here for the music? Headliners at this year's Gold Coast 600 include the British DJ Carl Cox plus Hot Dub Time Machine, Kingswood, Metal As Anything and Eric Powell.
