This festive season there’s no limit on how many Christmas lunches you can have. Whether it’s an end of year boozy brunch, or the first festive feast with friends, if there’s one thing that should be done this weekend— it’s eat all the food with good company.
‘Tis the season to gather your squad for an end of year food haul, here are 6 places perfect for an early Christmas catch-up this weekend.
Three Blue Ducks
Let’s not beat around the bush on this one. When it comes to the holiday season (and all of the bevvies that come with it), the one thing we can’t do without is a recovery brunch, complete with delicious food and a Bloody Mary (or two). We’re pretty rapt that Three Blue Ducks in Rosebery has decided to join the 21st century and allow bookings through the Dimmi website, because we certainly don’t have time for waitlists that stand in the way of our third coffee of the day. For those mornings when only a hearty breakfast will do, order the chorizo and white bean baked eggs and wash it down with the Bloody Mary with house-made hot sauce (after the coffee, obvs).
Riley St Garage
Most of us will agree that the annual family reunion is always a bit of a gamble, because it’s guaranteed to go one of two ways. Either it’ll be a day of family lovin’, or it’ll be—how can we put this—exhausting and remind you of why you only do it once a year. Booking at Riley St Garage is a good idea, regardless of which category your gathering falls in to, because there’s space to spread out, plenty of conversation starters (did you know that this building was built in 1934, great uncle Sam?) and a huge bar to escape to for a breather.
Brace yourselves; shiz is about to get real. Spread the word, because you’re having a Casoni Christmas catch-up! If that didn’t sound good (who are you?!) it’ll sound even better when you hit up their seriously impressive menu. Because Italian eats are always good and the eats at Casoni are some of the very best. Like pumpkin ravioli or pappardelle bolognese. Or both.
No person is fun to catch-up with when they’re hangry AF; so if your gathering has the collective appetite of a pack of lions, the Lady Hampshire is your jam. Food is of the classic pub grub kind (which can do no wrong). We’re talking burgers, schnitties, tacos and smoked meats. Leave room for the deep fried Golden Gaytime.
Royal Hotel Paddington
There’s a lot the Royal Paddo does right and serving up a royal feed is one of them. The drinks list is bible-sized, meaning your plan for a boozy Christmas catch-up on the Verandah overlooking Glenmore Road and the city = sorted. Plus, you can order a heap of share plates amongst your crew including tomato bruschetta, chilli-glazed wings and the life-changing waffle fries. Yep, they might even be better than the catch-up itself #sorryfriends.
For seaside vibes and a lazy atmosphere on the Manly Wharf, Papi Chulo is up there with the ultimate locations for an epic foodie affair this festive season. Meaning one does not simply “pop-in” to Papi Chulo. It’s simply impossible when there are share platters, wine, succulent seafood, more wine, cocktails, desserts, (did we mentioned the wine?) to be had. All must be consumed in that order.
Now you've found the spot here's what you should wear.
