Southern Foodie Carnival

We looooove ourselves some smoky Southern-style meats, which is why we’re pretty damn rapt that an entire carnival dedicated to just that is heading to Melbourne and Sydney starting this month.

The festival will kick off in Melbourne and lucky Victorians will have three events to choose from—Piazza Italia’s Fat Tuesday celebration (the biggest day in the New Orleans Mardi Gras season), Southern Carnival Dinner at Po Boy Quarter, and Melbourne Carnival at Huey Long’s. All of the events will be serving up Southern-themed dishes like Louisiana gumbo, Po’ Boys, Texas BBQ and tacos, with Southern Comfort cocktails to match.

The carnival will then head to Sydney in March, setting up camp upstairs from Surly’s, in Smokey’s Cabin, giving Sydneysiders a taste of all things South-style—oysters Rockefeller, po’boy sandwich and Creole smoked chicken Maryland.

It wouldn’t be a Southern party without music, so prepare to get amped with country and blues from The Sweet Jelly Rolls, alt country rock and roll from Papa Pilko and The Bin Rats, as well as performances from singer-songwriter Skyscraper Stan and The Commission Flats.

This is your chance to embrace the heart and soul of New Orleans, minus the exxy plane ticket, so jump on it.
