An Adventurer’s Guide To The Coast

By Rachel Lay - 05 May 2016

Guess what, guys? The Gold Coast isn’t just epic secret coffee spots, hidden beaches and top-notch ocean views. No, the Gold Coast has its fair share of adrenalin pumping through its veins too. The Goldie is home to waterfalls galore, sweat-inducing hikes and mountain climbing, more SUP’ing than you can poke a stick at and even deep sea fishing.

If days spent on sandy beaches with an uber fresh smoothie and a stack of weekly mags (or The Urban List on your phone…) just doesn’t cut the mustard for you, look no further than our adventure guide to the Gold Coast.

#1 Currumbin Rock Pools
Ah, Currumbin Rock Pools. Is there anything better than a day at the rock pools frolicking near higher than necessary rocks and chilling out with an epic picnic spread?

#2 SUP Around The Coast

SUP your way around Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks for a view of the Gold Coast that requires a little more adrenaline than a rooftop cocktail. SUP’ing is the best way to see the sights of the coast. Tallebudgera Creek is a crystal clear waterway that cuts through white sandy beaches between Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach.

#3 Zip Through The Rainforest Canopy

Buckle up for Australia’s longest zip line in the Gold Coast hinterland hot-spot, Mt Tamborine. If you’re feeling like you need to take things to the next level of extremeness, then this is the outing for you. Get set for 7 huge zip lines spanning across the Cedar Creek Canyon and above the rainforest canopy below – at 60m high and 70km fast it’s an adrenalin-junkie’s dream.

#4 Go Chasing Waterfalls

The Gold Coast has some of the most spectacular scenery in Oz so why not spend a day seeking out the Gold Coast’s best waterfalls and cool off by getting amongst the refreshing h20? We love the Elabana Falls on the Box Forest Circuit, but we’ve rounded up all the best waterfalls for you to choose from!

#5 Discover Springbrook National Park

Springbrook, you’re so beautiful, we’re almost jealous. The Natural Bridge is so stunning you’d be forgiven for filling your camera roll entirely with snaps of this natural wonder. Don’t swim here though folks, you’ll harm the glow worms! Purling Brook Falls are seriously breathtaking; the epic scenery is totally worth the hike, trust us.

#6 Kayak The Waterways

Is there any better way to see the Gold Coast than from the water? Probs not. For an action packed day hitting the waterways of the Gold Coast and building your a) muscles and b) tan, then you’re onto a winner with a Kayak Tour of the Gold Coast.

#7 Jetski The Coast

Do you have a need? A need for speed? If you answered yes you probably have a need for a Jetski Safari too. There’s no other way to explore the coast that’s as action packed and as a fast paced as this. Plus, you might even see a dolphin!

#8 Hoist The Sails

Clamber on board a sailing yacht, pull the ropes, hoist the sails and slice through the waves along the coast as you head off on your adventure. Prefer to kick back? Your skipper will have you covered. Simply relax (champers in hand, obvi) and watch the sun set over the ocean. #bliss!

#9 Secret Swimming Spots

The coast is full of many secrets, one in particular may just take your fancy though: secret swimming spots. There’s nothing better than beating the crowds to a secluded, picturesque spot for a quiet dip amongst nature. The hardest part just got super easy though, since we found all the secret spots for you. No worries!
