Don’t even try to resist this one. For a whole weekend, chocoholics will be getting their fix from Sydney’s favourite dessert legends. The smooth Festival of Chocolate at The Rocks is one of the most anticipated things to do in Sydney, and it’s totally free to attend. We think that’s a little nuts, but as long as those nuts are covered in chocolate, we’re not complaining.
Imagine 60 stalls all clamouring for your sweet tooth, in pastries, macarons, milkshakes or your very own personalised block of chocolate. Try Black Star Pastry’s legendary strawberry cake with a white chocolate twist. Or duck into an entire tent of Tim Tams, where you can finally decide on your favourite. Yep, there’s a lot to taste, so we suggest you bring your most forgiving pants and possibly even a suitcase for squirreling. Of course, there are plenty of other options once you’ve had your fill of chocolate too, both sweet and savoury.
For a break from all the gorging (but not the drooling, sorry), watch celebrated pastry chefs demonstrate their sweet, sweet magic in the Callebaut Test Kitchen. We’re talking everyone from Zumbo to the pastry chefs at Sydney’s best restaurants and bakeries, so if you want to bring some of those skills home, you know where to be. Alternatively, if you’re not kidding yourself about your kitchen skills, you can just watch award winning chocolatier Jodie Van De Velden craft a chocolate sculpture (ahem…off cuts please!).
It’s not often we say this, but this is a weekend for skipping brunch. Get down to The Rocks for the smooth Festival of Chocolate on Saturday the 12th of September from 10am to 8pm, or Sunday 13th September from 10am to 5pm.
