Oh Messina, is there anything they can’t do? Slowly but surely, cone by cone they’re paving the way to world domination. Okay, not quite, but they sure have Sydney ice cream lovers excited with the news of their newest opening in Newtown (making it their ninth store in New South Wales).
Finally, Inner Westians are getting a taste of what these dessert giants have to offer, but you’ll have to control your drool levels until the end of August when the new store is anticipated to open.
Taking over Gelatomassi’s shop front at 262 King Street, Messina will be moving in, with Salvatore La Rosa of Gelatomassi admitting they “can’t think of a better operator to take over from where Massi has left off. Gelato Messina’s reputation speaks for itself.”
So what has taken the boys of Messina this long to open up in the busy suburb? Owner Nick Palumbo says Newtown had always been a place of interest but they were concerned about overcrowding the busy area with many a gelato store already taking residency. Of course, now with Gelatomassi shutting up shop, it doesn’t mean the competition won’t still be fierce for the ice-cream legends, but we’re pretty confident they’re up for the challenge.
With Gelato Messina set to open in Newtown at the end of August, now might just be the time to buy a bigger belt...
