Orange is that little pocket of food and wine heaven tucked away three and a half hours outside of Sydney. So when there’s an event that celebrates all the fresh produce, wine and the people within it, it’s definitely worth venturing out for a bit of local indulgence.
Orange F.O.O.D Week kicks off on the 10th April and runs until the 19th . The event has been growing since its inception in 1991 and attracts a crowd with a shared passion for the region’s fresh seasonal produce and quality wine.
“The whole concept of F.O.O.D Week was ahead of its time when it was first proposed in 1991,” explains F.O.O.D Week President, James Sweetapple.
“Since then there has been a shift in the food consciousness. We are seeing more visitors to the region that have a real interest in discovering where their food comes from; they are looking to learn more about eating local and seasonal produce”.
This year’s new program won’t disappoint. With 80 tasty events to choose from including a weeknight market, the Sunday Producer’s Brunch & Market and The 100 Mile Dinner, there’s no doubt visitors to the area will get to sample what Orange is all about.
A couple of not-to-be-missed events include ‘FORAGE’ on April 18th where guests are invited to tour the most picturesque local vineyards and try their best bottles. The 100 Mile Dinner on April 13th is also a major go-to, with the friendly village of Molong hosting guests who will dine on long tables under the stars indulging in food and wine produced within a 100-mile radius.
So, as April fast-approaches, treat yourself to the fabulous food, wine and hospitality the region of Orange has to offer. Who knows, you may just learn a thing or two about the food and drink you love in the process.
