We take a day trip to the eclectic, bustling streets of Alexandria to bring you our top picks for the best eating, drinking and shopping in the precinct!

Some of Sydney's coolest eateries and design stores have set up shop in this former industrial playground . . .

EATING

The Grounds Of Alexandria

A founding father of Alexandria's flourishing food scene, The Grounds has garnered a cult following amongst Sydneysiders, rendering it almost impossible to get a table! Our tip: get there early, early!

Bread & Circus Wholefoods Canteen

For those on a health kick, Bread & Circus' menu is brimming with wholesome produce. For breakfast you can't go past the rainy day toast (lashings of honey, thyme, cinnamon butter) or if visiting at lunchtime go for The Daily Plate.

Cipro Pizza Al Taglio

One of Alexandria's most recent outposts, Cipro Pizza not only serves some of the best pizza in Sydney, but also delectable Italian snack and share plates, including salumi, baked ricotta and wood-fired grilled baby octopus. The dessert is also a knockout—think passionfruit pavlova gelato, ricotta cannoli and Amaretto tiramisu.

The Copper Mill

Serving up all-day breakfast and serious coffee via The Golden Cobra, The Copper Mill in Alexandria has been packed to brim since opening its doors late last year. Highlights on the menu include coddled egg with creamed kumera, the lamb sandwich and iced Sticky Chai.

Kitchen By Mike

The work of renowned chef Mike McEnearney (ex-Rockpool), Kitchen by Mike offers a delicious, fresh and seasonal menu, which changes up daily so you're always in for a delectable surprise! Look out for Mike's Kurobuta ham with mash, and wood-fired pumpkin with Nigella seeds.

Bourke Street Bakery

This Alexandria eatery needs no introduction. A long-standing institution on Sydney's cafe scene, Bourke Street Bakery attracts foodies far and wide with its deliciously extensive list of pastries, pies, tarts, quiche and cakes—the ginger brûlée tart and bacon, Gruyère & leek quiche are a must!

DRINKING

Rocks Brewing Co.

A Sydney craft brewery and bar in the heart of Alexandria, Rocks Brewing Co serves up traditionally crafted ales, lagers and cider, as well as a curated wine list and staple pub fare (nachos, Louisiana hot wings and crunchy onion rings)—all the things you want from your new local!

Vicinity Dining

For those who fancy themselves as a connoisseur of vino, Vicinity Dining in Alexandria boasts an extensive wine list that's sure to excite. On the food front, the menu boasts a range of eclectic offerings but all we really want is the Wagyu beef burger, topped with homemade pickles and chipotle mayo—amazing!

The Potting Shed

A late night bar and eatery from the boys at The Grounds, The Potting Shed offers a sensational menu of share plates and cocktails with a twist—go for The Smoking Shovel, tequila and mescal shaken with spiced orange, carrot and capsicum juice (the way juice should be served!). An awesome new addition to Alexandria's bar scene, which Sydneysiders have gone nuts for.

SHOPPING

Coco Republic

A stalwart of Australia's design scene, Coco Republic houses an exquisite collection of pieces for the home and outdoors. Be sure to drop in for a dash of design inspiration, just wandering the showroom floor feels like you are in a beautiful gallery.

Brimming with a vibrant assortment of furniture and homewares, Koskela has become a hub amongst design-focused Sydneysiders. Its beautiful and durable pieces span everything from pendant lights to sofas and shelving, as well as a selection of leather accessories, environmentally-friendly products, books and stationery.  A must on your Alexandria itinerary.
