Porteño and Bodega Open a Deli in Newtown

Porteño (one of Sydney’s best restaurants) has been serving up Argentinean deliciousness to us for years. Now, Elvis Abrahanowicz, the man behind Surry Hills’ restaurant Porteño, and Bodega’s Joe Valore have just (we’re talking Monday 28th September) opened up Continental Deli Bar and Bistro on Australia Street in Newtown. Bless them and their meaty offerings. The deli, with a wine list spanning Italy, France and Australia, will take up the lower half of the venue with an upstairs bistro to follow shortly next month.

Diners will have the option to buy and take home goodies to munch on or set themselves up at the bar with a spread of cold cuts, canned seafood (the good kind), cheese and wine. If something at the soon-to-open bistro tickles your fancy, simply pop downstairs to take it home and whip together yourself. Easy!

The bistro itself is rumoured to be family-style group dining which sounds like our kind thing and we’re already canvassing for foodie friends to work our way through what promises to be a tasty menu.

We’re more than prepared to battle our way through Porteño and Bodega regulars at this new Sydney restaurant, because if it’s anything like their other ventures, it’s going to be next level. Expect the same fun and casual atmosphere, but with a love for deli-style eats that will have you questioning the very concept of Australia’s continental drift.
