Spring has officially sprung and we’re counting down the weeks, days seconds to summer. We’re obvs doing that by stuffing ourselves silly with allllll of the food and sipping on allllll of the drinks. This week, Harbour Bar & Kitchen was at the top of our foodie bucket list.
As soon as we arrived at HBK we nabbed a seat on the balcony, overlooking the water. Perfect for a long, long lunch, it was obvious we were never going to want to leave. On recommendation of the staff, we ordered coconut margaritas all round. Ice cold with just the right amount of lime, these bad boys were made for balmy Sydney afternoons.
With grumbling stomachs, we only had to look at the menu once to know what we wanted to start – the cured meat platter, duh. Topped with cured meats (droooool), pickled vegetables, fruits and skordalia (aka god damn delicious potato and garlic dip), we ate our way to foodie heaven.
Once we had another cocktail or two (the frozen strawberry and basil margarita is everything!) we got stuck straight into the HBK Platter. WTF is HBK platter? Think half a rack of pork ribs, half a rack of beef ribs, a sirloin fillet, the old faithful burger, skewered spicy BBQ mini wings AND hot chips and coleslaw. Yes, we’re serious. This platter exists in Sydney and every carnivore needs to try it.
By the time dessert came around, we were in a serious food coma (a good one, of course). With no room left in our bellies, we did the right thing and ordered one of every dessert on the menu. We’re talking a passionfruit meringue, chocolate brulee dome, wild strawberry pillow and hazelnut stone. By hazelnut stone we mean caramelised milk chocolate and hazelnut mousse sitting on a cocoa sable that legit makes all your chocolate dreams come true.
Whether you’re looking for somewhere to seat yourself for cocktails with your whole squad or a date nightspot by the water, Harbour Bar & Kitchen is never a bad idea. Arrive with an empty belly, stuff yourself with all the glorious food then roll yourself home.
