It’s that time of the year, we get it. You’ve been working your ass off all year, the holidays are in sight, but just out of reach. Sigh. You’re in serious need of some R&R, and we feel you… we are too!
Enter: Spicers Sangoma Retreat. This little haven of luxe and calm takes its namesake from the Zulu word for healer. And it does just that; heal, rejuvenate and relax. Just what the Dr ordered! It’s an eco-certified retreat nestled in the serenity of the foothills of Blue Mountains that’s got it all: infinity pool, uber-delicious menu, serenity in spades, a gorgeous spa, and plenty of nature ready to be explored. We wish we were there right now.
And it’s all only hour from Sydney. For real!
If you’ve got those end of the year blues, we think the only antidote is a trip to Sangoma.
Treat yourself to a dip in their idyllic infinity pool overlooking Sydney’s city skyline and the valley below vistas or get cosy by the fireplace, or relax in one of eight private suites. Yes—just eight! This place is super secluded, sans the huge trek from Sydney, that is! Each room (well, each space in the retreat, actually!) treats you to the most stunning view of the city skyline and the breathtaking valley below.
The accommodation at Sangoma is pretty darn cool. Stay in a ‘tent’ that’s really an ultra-luxe suite amongst nature complete with free-standing bath, private balcony and a pretty much exclusive access-all-areas pass to the epic views. Or, if you’re feeling a bit less adventurous, try out the Chief’s Suite that comes complete with two stories of panoramic views. The bush suites have their advantages, too. Like a huuugee balcony, fireplace and open plan set up. The escarpment suites are pretty special, these are the newest addition to Sangoma and were completed in August 2016 too (I mean, aren’t they all?), if not for their bath with jaw-dropping views of the region, then for the pure luxury of the whole suite. Whatever you do, you can’t really go wrong with a stay in any of the suites because they’re all just as stunning as the last.
If food is more your thing, you’ll fall head over heels for the menu on offer here. With local ingredients taking centre stage, and a highly skilled head chef manning the kitchen, your taste buds are in for a treat. Take the Spanish mackerel civiche, whipped preserved lemon, Harissa and rice crisp as an example of just how delicious things are here. Or, the cayenne pepper and almond roast asparagus, duck yolk aioli and kale extraction if that wasn't enough. Plus, if you're a sweet tooth you really can't beat the chamomile meringue, rockmelon Sorbet and picked mandarin gel ... holy yum!
If epic, world-class food and insta-worthy luxe accommodation aren’t enough for you, there’s also a bevy of things to keep you entertained at Sangoma. The spacious open plan lounge has a stunning fireplace, a bar and plenty of board games to keep you perfectly entertained. If you’re more the adventurous type then horse riding, bike rides, kayaking and seasonal fruit picking await! Plus, there are countless walking tracks waiting to be explored.
And all only an hour from Sydney. Who knew?
