Watch: The MINI Edition | Top 10 Things To Do In Sydney This August

By Sophia Fukunishi
31st Jul 2015

Another month, another 10 awesome things to do in Sydney. We’ve got more new bars, restaurants and ridiculously fun events than you’ll know what to do with. But don’t worry, this month has 31 glorious days, so there’ll be plenty of chances to do it all!

To give you a little taste, we have cheesy new openings, seafood celebrations, rock inspired burgers and a totally legitimate excuse to drink beer and lots of it.

It’s the last official month of winter, so let’s show the cold who’s boss.

#10 Paddington welcomes The Village Inn

Say hello to new Sydney pub, The Village Inn. Conveniently located in the fashionable shopping destination, The Intersection, this colonial style pub will provide a much needed eating and drinking opportunity for those mid-shopping trip, and as a solid go-to for Paddo locals too. With classic pub food offerings (including a mean looking burger) and a quality drinks selection, make a stop at The Village Inn.

#9 Italian Food and Wine Festival

Make like a macaroni and head to the Italian Food and Wine Festival on Sunday 30th August. With over 300 wines to taste, cooking demonstrations, meaty, cheesy and carby food stalls and even a dedicated negroni bar, if you love Italian food and wine (who doesn’t?!), this festival should be added to your calendar, stat.

#8 Chug, chug, chug for International Beer Day

Bottoms up! It’s International Beer Day on 7th August, which means that it’s your duty as a beer loving global citizen to get chugging as a sign of respect.

#7 Fiesta Del Mar at Movida

A celebration of seafood at Movida?! Sign us up. On Sunday 16th August get your long lunch on with Movida’s Fiesta Del Mar where you’ll indulge in five glorious courses of seafood, seafood and more seafood. We’re talking zesty prawn ceviche, stuffed calamari and beautifully baked pink snapper as part of the festivities. Reservations are essential, so contact [email protected] or 02 8964 7642 to make a booking.

#6 Salt Meats Cheese opens in Mosman

We’re not sure if there is a greater combination than salts, meats and cheese. And we’re pretty sure many of you feel the same way. Fortunately for salt, meat and cheese lovers on the north side, SMC has opened up shop, saving you the trip over the bridge to Alexandria. Although smaller in size than its older brother, SMC Mosman is still big in heart and deliciousness. The space is half providore and half restaurant so you can have a meal with a glass of wine on the side and then buy some iberico jamon and French cheese to take home. Because you’re fancy like that.

#5 Game on at Barbarello's Pizza and Arcade

Unleash your inner pimply teen and get all up in Pacman’s face at Barbarello’s Pizza and Arcade. This pop-up bar at The Sugarmill lets you play arcade games and stuff your face full of pizza, just like a kid at a Timezone party. What makes this even better is that you’re an adult now, which means you can drink while you defeat your mate at The Fast and The Furious arcade game.

#4 Get your indie on to Passion Pit at The Enmore

Dance like nobody’s watching to Passion Pit when they play at The Enmore on 23rd August. We know it’s a school night, but that shouldn’t stop you from singing your little heart out to all the hits from their latest album, Kindred. We’ll be there front and centre bopping along with you.

#3 Check out Bonditony's Burger Joint

Oooooh-weeeee! Another burger joint has set up shop in Sydney and it’s a goodun. Owned by Tony, a Bondi local (hence the name) and music industry type, all his burgers are named after the bands he’s managed, toured or promoted. So if you’re ordering a Lost Valentino or Classic Cog, ask Tony if he has a story to share. We’re sure he has a few!

#2 The best hummus you'll ever have at Kepos & Co

The hummus at the newly opened Kepos & Co is getting a bit of press of late and we can see why. Warm chickpeas are delivered to your table in a huge mortar where they’re expertly crushed into some of the best hummus of your life. Served with warm wood-fired taboon flatbread, you’ll be dreaming of this dish for meals to come.

#1 Eat ALL the oysters at The Oyster Festival at The Morrison

Some 38,000 oysters were devoured at last year’s Oyster Festival at The Morrison and we’re predicting that it’s going to be even bigger this year. Running for the entire month of August, eat your weight in oysters with $1 oyster hours, an oyster and whiskey masterclass, oyster and wine flights, and oyster infused menus. Yep, that’s more oyster than we can shake a pearl at, and we love it.

Can't wait to hit up all the events this month? Well why not WIN somethin' while you do?! Simply Instagram and tag @miniaustralia and #theminiedition when you are at any of the events or locations, and you’ll be in the draw to win $150 to spend at The Morrison!
