Sure the temperatures have dropped, but that’s not going to stop us from leaving the warm cosiness of our corn-chip-crumbed tracksuits and checking out all the great things to do in Sydney this July.
We’ve got movie nights, secret dance parties, new burger joints, and actually good home delivered pizza (for those who really can’t bear to leave the house) all lined up for this month. So drag yourself out of your Netflix hole and get into all of the goodness Sydney has in store for you.
#10 Lixie Chocolaterie opens in Surry Hills
If you’re a bit of a chocolate fiend, then you’ll want to hit up this new chocolate shop in Surry Hills this July. Lixie Chocolaterie create handmade organic chocolate right on site, so you know it’s going to be fresh and delicious (no powdery white ancient chocolate here, guys!). Hand-flaked hot chocolates are on the menu, and we suggest you do yourself a favour and order the orange hot chocolate because it’s next level amazing. With chocolate appreciation nights and courses, Lixie Chocolaterie is doing some damn fine things in the world of chocolate.
#9 Monday Movie Nights at Manly Wharf Bar
Monday gets a pretty bad rap, and for good reason—it kind of sucks. The guys at Manly Wharf Bar know this all too well, so have launched Monday movie nights to make the start of the working week a little less of a drag. Score yourself a comfy bean bag, munch on their $10 movie meals, and wash it all down with $10 jugs of beers and cocktails. The best part is, you don’t need to leave the comfort of your beanbag to get food and drinks… They come to you! For details of upcoming movies, check the website (they’re playing The Notebook on 13th July, so BYO tissues).
When: every Monday
#8 Salt Meats Cheese launches The Pizza Box
In our minds, Salt Meats Cheese can do no wrong. And now they have launched The Pizza Box where you can dine in (they’re perfect for large groups), or if you’re feeling particularly lazy, have your pizzas delivered, which pleases us to no end. The margherita is a classic and only $16, but if you want to ball out, the Black Lobster with lobster tail on a squid ink pizza base might be the one for you. For those who want to learn how to make pizzas at home, The Pizza Box also host group pizza classes, perfect for hen’s nights and corporate events.
#7 Check out new Sydney restaurant and bar, The Public, Cammeray
Part bar, part restaurant, The Public, Cammery is a very welcome addition to the area's drinking and dining scene. Score yourself a booth seat and dig into their Mediterranean inspired menu that’s ideal for sharing or not sharing (if you’re feeling a bit greedy). Not to be missed is their three flavour ice cream sandwich, which is a perfect way to finish off a boozy lunch or dinner… Or start one, if you’re a total legend.
#6 Secret dance parties with Number 56
Direct from Berlin, Number 56 is a series of secret parties that involve music, art, creativity, and some pretty creepy looking posters around town. This place is so underground that you’ll need to register to get your name on the list to attend the parties. So let curiosity get the best of you and check out Number 56.
#5 Logan wine dinner with Papi Chulo
The Logan Wine dinner with Papi Chulo is a perfect excuse to escape Sydney for the weekend and head to the Mudgee wine region (although we never really need much of an excuse). The dinner will consist of an epic degustation where guests will be able to sample a range of matching wines from Logan Wines. Of this tasty event, chef Patrick Friesen says, “we’re really looking forward to working with local Mudgee produce to create a menu that celebrates the smoky, succulent goodness of American BBQ and light, fresh, spicy flavours of modern Asian.” Stop it Patrick, you had us at “succulent goodness”.
When: Saturday 25th July
#4 A new kind of exercise with Rollerfit
Exercise can’t really be classified as boring when you’re on rollerskates. Rollerfit classes involve core strength, cardio, agility, balance, and a whole lotta laughs. Even if you haven’t rollerskated since you were a kid, the guys at Rollerfit will, ahem, roll you through the basics so you’ll be a pro before you even know it. Get your skates on folks, this is one exercise class that we can totally get on board with.
#3 Get your burger on at Five Points Burgers
The award for best burger in Sydney is always a hotly contested (and subjective) one. Five Point Burgers is new on the burger scene in Sydney but has already garnered a loyal following of burger enthusiasts. Lines even at 11.30am on any given weekday indicate this burger joint’s popularity and we can see why. Soft Brasserie Bread milk buns act as the perfect encasing for the delicious ingredients, and the chips are a necessary and crunchy accompaniment. Wash it all down with a milkshake, and you’ve got yourself a winning mid-week lunch. High fives to you.
#2 Goros gets karaoke rooms!
We’re not sure about you, but at least one of our office Christmas parties have ended up in a drunken sing-fest at karaoke. However, we don’t think karaoke should be a once a year thing and we’re glad they guys at Surry Hills bar Goros feel the same. Opening a small number of karaoke rooms next to their main bar, you can eat, drink, and sing your way through any given evening. Want a bit of Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs with your yakitori, or some Bon Jovi with your beer? Of course you do, you crooner! Get down to Goros and sing your little heart out.
#1 The Rocks Aroma Festival
Ah coffee, the lifeblood of office workers everywhere. In fact, even if you’re not an office worker, you’re probably still about that coffee life. The Rocks Aroma Festival is back again this year celebrating our favourite caffeinated beverage. With a coffee in hand (mandatory), explore everything you love about coffee through cupping and latte art workshops, brew camps, and coffee appreciation events.
When: Sunday 26th July, 10am – 5pm.
