The Ultimate Night Out In Bondi

By Ellie Schneider
27th Aug 2014

Bondi. Oh how we love you – with your rowdy backpackers, overpriced everything and new apartment blocks popping up left, right and centre. That said, the beachside suburb is also home to some of the best cafes, restaurants and bars in Sydney. And if you know where to look, you may just stumble on a real gem (without the hefty price tag). Join us for the ultimate night out in Bondi!

Shop and Wine Bar

One of Bondi's original small bars, it is here that we start our journey. Shop and Wine Bar is nestled back from the beach and is the perfect spot to while away an afternoon. Known affectionately as The Shop, perch yourself at one of the outdoor tables and soak up the fleeting moments of sunshine. The wine list features a collection of more than 20 drops, with our top picks being the Tomero Malbec from Argentina or the Bloodwood 'Schubert' Chardonnay. Pair a wine with the antipasto board, a generous serve of cheese and cured meats and you're really onto a winner. With its cosy beachside charm it's no wonder this is a local favourite.

Panama House

It's no secret that Sydneysiders are lapping up the Southern American food trend, and up the road at Panama House they've got it down to a tee. Just thinking about the tacos, po' boys, gumbo and key lime pies has us licking our lips with anticipation. The New Orleans sticky baby back ribs are a must as is the popcorn shrimp tacos with fried cheddar potato. For the vegos, the sweet potato, quinoa and spiced chickpea burger is absolutely delicious! Get a little buzz on with the Pineapple Express (Aviation gin, elderflower, lemon and pineapple) or for those who like it hot, the Panama Mary (rum, tomato juice, port, lime, chipotle, gumbo) guarantees a fun night out and is totally worth the headache the following morning!

The Corner House

This intimate wine den is a long-standing institution in Bondi's drinking scene. Sink into a chesterfield lounge for a tasty nightcap, but be warned the cocktail list is sure to shake things up. Think creative concoctions like the Banana Vista Social Club (Havana Club 3, banana liqueur, coconut, egg) or The Renegade (paw paw infused Calle 23, cherry Herring, passionfruit and lapsang souchong). For those who prefer vino, The Corner House's wine list is one of the longest in town - seriously. If hunger strikes (and we know it will), their wood-fired pizza is perfect for a late night carb fix – spicy salami, anyone?
