Where To Celebrate A ‘Yes’ Vote In Sydney Today

By Ange Law
15th Nov 2017

If you want (read: need) somewhere to feel the love and celebrate today, then you’ve come to the right place. From Oxford Street to Newtown and a few others thrown in for good measure, this is everywhere you need to hit today to celebrate a big fat Y-E-S.

And in the worst-case scenario of a no vote you’ll be surrounded by like-minded legends that know—love is love.

Prince Alfred Park

If you’re looking for somewhere to head (like, right now) to hear the results of the postal vote—that isn’t your boring desk—then you’ll want to jump in an Uber and head for Prince Alfred Park. There’ll be all manner of official people at this one, from City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore to Ian Thorpe and Magda Szubanski. Announcement is at 10am.

Taylor Square

The epicentre of all things LGBTQI in Sydney, Taylor Square will be home to the free multi-stage festival by Reclaim the Streets and it’ll start from 6pm. FYI we’ll be heading here at 5pm to see the giant rainbow flag raised to full mast and we think you should too.

The Lansdowne Hotel

If there’s one thing The Lansdowne Hotel knows how to do, it’s party. That’s why they’re throwing a big fat YASS! Party today and it’ll all kick off from 2pm. Per usual, they’ll be bringing out some epic DJs like Girlthing as well as the original tribute lip syncing group The Magda Szubanskis. And we just think that’s damn appropriate.

Free Ice Cream

The good guys at Over The Moo will be parking up in front of the ‘I Have A Dream’ Mural on King Street between 12pm and 6pm today. They’ll be slinging free vegan ice cream like it’s going out of style, so get on it. No matter what the results are today, free ice cream is always needed.

The Rose Of Australia

The Going Postal Party at this local is a day-long party that’ll see you sipping $50 bottles of Piper Heidsieck and $25 bottles of Fleur de Lys all day long. Details here

Lord Roberts Hotel

If you want to party all day and be close to all of the action at Taylor Square (and Oxford Street) come 6pm, then you’ll want to hit up the Lord Roberts Hotel. There’ll be DJs on the decks all day, delish food (hello burgers) and necessary $20 cocktail specials.

The Green Park Hotel

From 4pm, everything will be kicking off at The Green Park Hotel (in a good way). From Djs to draaaanks, and loads of fun in between, this one is a good’un.

Oxford Street

If in doubt, roam Oxford Street and pop into any pub, club or bar along the way. They’ve got you.

Oh, and these legends just gave away a same sex wedding.
