It’s that time of the year again. Our hot dog eatin’ and bourbon swiggin’ friends across the water are stoking their BBQs and decorating everything red, white and blue in preparation for Independence Day.
While we might not be celebrating our own national holiday, we can certainly get involved with a beer and a burger at these Sydney bars. Any excuse for a party, eh?
The Soda Factory
Where better to spend the holiday than at Sydney’s best American style diner? They’ve got plenty of all-American thangs planned from awesome DJ sets (playing American classics) to heaps of finger lickin’ grub. The fourth of July will see ‘The Return of the Mac’, the Soda Factory’s legendary burger made with two deep fried mac & cheese patties as buns, a beef patty, jack cheese, bacon, red onions, Soda’s secret sauce and a pickle on top. Hungry yet? This heart attack can be washed down with a few beers and The Abraham Bindrinkin’ cocktail, exclusively mixed up for the event. If that doesn’t keep you jiving until the early hours, we don’t know what will!
The gang at Sydney bar, Miss Peaches are bringing in the fourth of July with an all swingin’, all dancin’ party. Y’all ready? The Newtown soul food joint has joined forces with Batch Brewery and Archie Rose Distillery to bring you a brand new Rye IPA. As well as sampling the new brew, you’ll also be lucky enough to get your chops around the epic Liberty burger and freedom fries that’ll be served for one night and one night only. Couple this with live music all night from country cats Cruisin’ Deuces and Ross Tipper and you’re onto a winner!
Something big is happening down at Bondi Junction this Saturday. The Mexican mecca, El Topo are pulling out all the stops to launch their brand spanking new rock’n’roll room with a sprinkle of Americana awesomeness on top. Expect cheeseburger sliders, red cups and plenty of Budweiser, as well as prizes for the best fancy dress costume and a beer pong competition. If there was ever a time to bring it, now is that time!
The first in a series of pop-up parties, Redfern café, Three Williams are hosting a Red, White and Bubbles soiree. Hosted in association with Exclusive Wines, throughout the party you’ll have the chance to sample a smorgasbord of South American wines designed to complement Three Williams’ new menu. Although this evening of indulgence might leave you feeling a bit guilty, fear not, for $5 from every ticket purchased going towards local charity Tribal Warrior that helps disadvantaged Aboriginal and non-indigenous people.
The new kid on the block, neon-signed sports bar, Surly’s is hosting a BBQ Bonanza this Saturday and it’s set to be a tasty one. As well as deals on bottles of Coors, Sam Adams and Blue Moon, they’re serving up their mouth-watering BBQ plates all day long. Smoked in house, your hardest decision of the weekend will be pulled pork, spare ribs or beef brisket. It’s a tough life, isn’t it!
In the immortal words of 2 Pac and Dr Dre, California knows how to party. Neutral Bay bar, SoCal are serving up hot dawgs, hot wings and hot drinks this Saturday night with a side of Cali beach vibes. Get stuck into their $10 hotdogs, $12 spicy hot wings, and $6 fireball shots, and feel like a true American (even if you’re not).
Dove and Olive and Keg and Brew
Liberty, freedom and beers for all! The legendary sister venues are hosting a double party so you’re in for twice the fun. K&B will be helping the festivities along with pitchers of The Suffering Bastard, their bourbon, gin and ginger ale cocktail as well as craft beers on tap. If you’re peckish, head over the D&O where, in addition to serving up buffalo wings, American fried cheese and New York cheesecake, they’re hosting a Hot Dog Eating Competition (yes, really!). Eat more 10 dogs in under three minutes and you’ll get your entry fee back—but maybe not your dignity.
