It’s not like we ever needed another reason to eat tacos… But hey, the fiesta gods thought differently and with a little tasty alliteration the holy day of Taco Tuesdays was born. And at even cheaper prices, we’re loosening our belt buckles and saying por que no los dos all night long. It’s time to get in on Sydney’s best tacos… For cheap!
It was love at first taco at Contrabando in Sydney’s CBD. Offering seven finger-lickin’ good varieties plus an additional secret taco if you’re game, these little bad boys are just $3 a pop so there’s no judgments if you’re willing to test out the whole menu. And you’re gonna want to with taco fillings like spiced prawns with guac and a mint and chill salad and, rotisserie pork with a chipotle vinaigrette and salsa featuring on the Tuesday rotation. If you’re a vego, fear not for the Cuban beans with chilli jam, ratatouille and haloumi is sure to get your Mexican beans jumping.
Tuesdays get a little taco-licious at this rooftop bar in Bondi Junction. With tacos going off at $5 (excluding the soft shell crab) it’s no wonder the streets below seem so quiet on a Tuesday night. So get your salsa on, because it would be a good idea to work up an appetite. Speaking of food, the good guys at El Topo have you more than covered. Gorge on the pollo frito, with fried chicken, radish, corn, coriander salsa and chipotle mayo or, seeing as you’re near Bondi, perhaps the seafood option of fried gemfish with pickled cabbage and chipotle mayo might be the way to go.
At Cantina Bar it’s the Day of the Dead all year round and with $5 Taco Tuesdays this is the place to get your Latin-Mex fix in Sydney’s harbourside. And even the pickiest of eaters will be pleased as the good amigos behind Cantina Bar have all your proteins sorted with lamb, beef, prawn and vegetarian options on offer every Tuesday. While $5 tacos themselves are a hard thing to top, $5 tacos and tequila might do just that.
While Tuesdays might not be your favourite day of the week, Taco Tuesdays at The Norfolk may be just the thing to get you through. With $3 tacos starting at 6pm you can head straight from the office to this Surry Hills bar and feast away your workday woes. If the weather’s good we recommend getting in early to snag yourself one of the coveted outdoor tables but the real end game here are the tacos. And with past specials including the Korean fried chicken and crispy shredded pork with mango and lime salsa as well as margaritas of all flavours to go with your taco of choice, it’s a veritable party in your mouth.
El Taco El Tuesday at SoCal needs no introduction. As soon as the clock strikes 4pm, you’ll be sure to see their delicious $4 tacos (relaunching May 10) flying off the pass. The steak taco with chilli jam and the baja fish taco are local favourites while your gluten-free and vegetarian friends will be appeased with plenty of options to choose from too. Another great thing about tacos is that they’re a one handed type of food, so feel free to fill up the other with one of the fruity cocktails on offer at this Neutral Bay staple. With summer just around the corner, this slice of the Californian coast is the perfect way to say hola to balmier nights, so book yourself in online for a no fuss night out.
There’s something a little cheeky going on in the basement of this Martin Place building and it’s all thanks to the tequila-obsessed Barrio Cellar. And in keeping with the letter of the day, their $3 Taco Tuesdays are the perfect way to satisfy your taco cravings well into the night. Think char-grilled chicken with pico de gallo, blended cheese, guacamole and smoky salsa or the confit portobello mushroom with corn, grilled mozzarella and queso (even us carnivores can get behind this one). Perfect for after-work drinks too, if you’re a lover of the old fashioned, then be sure to try out their agave twist on the classic.
Beach Burrito Company
