Where To Take A Date With Dietaries

A good date spot is hard to find. Whether it’s your first, second or twenty-eighth date, you need to get the venue right because the last thing anyone needs in their life is a sub-par dinner at a restaurant with unflattering fluorescent lights. When you’re dating someone with dietaries, finding a good date spot gets even harder.

And that’s where Indu comes in. With just the right amount of dark corners, it’s decked out with exposed terracotta bricks, pots of spices and hanging bells, Indu is super sophisticated and trendy AF. Tucked away underground, just off Angel Place, Indu is the perfect place to take just about anyone, especially those with dietaries…

If Your Date Is Vegan…

Don’t panic. There’s a whole lot more to vegans than salad and Amma’s daal at Indu will make you see why. Jam-packed with red lentils, mustard seeds and fresh ground coconut and followed by the devilled pumpkin curry with ginger and coconut chutney, you’ll be wishing you hadn’t ordered the spatchcock raan with cumin caramel carrots and spiced gravy. Or not.

If Your Date Is Vegetarian…

You’ve come to the right place. Indu’s milk buns with burnt onion butter and coconut sambol are seriously something and we’re willing to bet that the pair of you could spend your whole night eating just that but don’t go home without sharing the heirloom tomatoes and whipped paneer because paneer equals cheese and cheese equals happiness.

If Your Date Is Pescatarian…

It means that they love fish and you should too. Start with the crab and salt cod, served on a betel leaf then share the grilled market fish in wattle seed and bush tomato masala. We don’t care if you felt like the twice-cooked lamb ribs. If you want this relationship to work out, you’re going to have to order fish.

If Your Date Is Gluten Free…

Two words: dosa bar. Just because they can’t eat bread or pasta doesn’t mean those gluten intolerant aren’t a ball of fun (minus the carbs). Traditionally a Sri Lankan staple, dosas and hoppers are naturally gluten and dairy free, boasting a soft AF centre and oh-so crispy edge. We strongly suggest you order one of everything then get into a heated debate over which one is your fave. Our pick is the squid ink hopper with seared yellowfin tuna, pomelo pickle and tuna belly ceviche but the smoked goat’s leg dosa with zucchini ribbon raita, pomegranate, chilli and bacon jam (yes, bacon jam) isn’t bad either. Did we mention 84% of their menu is gluten free?

If Your Date Is Lactose Intolerant…

It’s allllllll about the curries. From the beef shin bone marrow and Kashmiri lamb curry with black cardamom to the Goan pork belly curry with coconut milk, the dairy free options are endless, authentic and god damn delicious.

If Your Date Is Fruitarian…

We can’t help you. We don’t even really know what that is (nor do we want to).

If Your Date Eats Everything…

YOU HAVE A WINNER! We repeat, you have a winner. Hold onto this lucky guy or gal for life because this one really could be ‘the one’. Impress his or her pants off with a feast of a lifetime (read: The Great Lamb Raan at Indu) then take down the hand made dessert menu and live happily ever after.
