To celebrate Sustainability Month at Urban List, we've scouted five of the Gold Coast's best bulk food stores for you start shopping at.
The Source Bulk Foods
Southport and Miami
Conscious consumption and zero waste are at the heart of The Source. They have more than 50 stores around Australia, with two on the Gold Coast in Southport and Miami. These stores are well organised, brightly lit and are brimming with organic bulk goods. You can't walk past their chocolate covered strawberries. Stop and scoop immediately.
Bliss Health & Bulk Foods
You’ll find this family owned and run business on Young Street in Southport. Bliss Health & Bulk Foods offer a range of health foods, wholefoods, organic and gluten free foods, including their own range of bliss ball mixes. If you're a newbie to bulk food buying, this friendly family will be happy to help out and steer you in the right direction. Our tip? Head straight for the raw treats.
Helen's Heavenly Bulk Foods
Tucked halfway down James Street in Burleigh, Helen's Heavenly Bulk Foods has an on-site cafe too. Grab a coffee before you stock up or once you're done, fuel up with a smoothie bowl. They offer all the usual suspects in the big clear tubs, plus some other culinary delights like house made almond butter, peanut butter and vegomite.
Naturopath Tracey Wilson owns and runs this bulk food haven. After 10 years of working with people in need, she noticed how fundamental the right foods are to good health. Bearfoot Wholefoods has over 350 bulk foods in bins and barrels and 40% of those are organic. They provide locally sourced, ethically and sustainably produced food and we’re all about that.
Simply Bulk Foods
Located in the Coomera City Centre, this store has more than 300 bulk food bins to choose from. They've got dried fruit, cereals, nuts, grains, chocolate, kombucha on tap and much more. You can buy as little as 100g or scoop out the whole tub if you desire. If you can't make it into the store, Simply Bulk Foods sell online too.
