If the Crafted Beer & Cider fest wasn’t good enough news for you this month, then let’s taco bout this for a minute: Tex-Mex superstar El Camino Cantina is finally bringing its legendary Tex-Mex menu, frozen Margaritas and all-around good times to the Gold Coast. The new venue is set to open at Robina Town Centre shopping precinct Wednesday 22 July at 4pm so write that down ‘cause things are about to get loco.
Taking the former Lord of the Wings prime waterfront spot on The Promenade, the colourfully eclectic 280-seater is rife with neon lights and fluorescent signage, including a festively lit, 175-seat alfresco area for outdoor, margarita-fuelled shenanigans.
Dig into bottomless baskets of complimentary tortilla chips with vibrant salsas, then cruise through a selection of soft-shelled tacos, sizzling fajitas (tortillas are house-made daily), buffalo wings, nachos and other classic Tex-Mex dishes.
If you tend to run away screaming at the sight of a hot sauce bottle, don’t worry: you’ll be able to avoid danger by sticking to the lowest chilli rating on the menu (dishes can go up to three chillies, if you feel like showing off).
The launch date happens to coincide with the chain’s weekly Wing Wednesday, which means that you can score sauced-up buffalo wings for 10-cents each with a drink purchase. We’ll pretend it’s just a coincidence and not a ploy on behalf of El Camino to get us to stuff our faces with so many buffalo wings so that we may never leave the premises.
If wings aren’t your thing, Taco Tuesdays might brighten your mood with $2 or larger $4 tacos with the purchase of a drink.
Speaking of drinks: El Camino’s signature Margaritas are served shaken or frozen and come in five flavours (classic, strawberry, mango, tropical and a limited-edition flavour that changes every month) and they're as big as your head. If you’re not a tequila fan, you can cruise through a range of Australian craft and flagship Mexican draught and bottled cervezas, you party pooper.
