If you haven’t stopped by Mermaid Beach’s FuFu in a while, then consider this your call to action.
The venue, run by Gold Coast foodie legend Morgan Walsh, has had a complete makeover. Gone is the candy pink interior and Chinese American menu and in its place sits an achingly cool big sister.
While the name remains the same, everything else has had a complete overhaul. Think dusty-blush velvet high banquette seating, cosy booths, concrete walls, moody lighting and clusters of hanging greenery. It’s the kind of swanky spot you’ll want to spend all day in, which is fortunate considering the new menu is absolutely drool-worthy.
Diner-style dishes are no more, having been replaced with a fresh, mouth-watering mix of modern pan Asian eats. Think soy and sesame salmon sashimi; Vietnamese pancake with prawn and pork; barramundi with sticky pork belly and apple salad; and a yellow prawn curry with roti that we reckon is one of the best on the Coast.
But perhaps our favourite part of the new FuFu? Their soon-to-be-launched bottomless brunch. While we don’t have the official kick-off date as yet, expect moreish eats like Big Mac spring rolls, fluffy bao buns and bulgogi tacos. Tipples will include lemongrass spritzes and mimosas. Launching on Saturdays soon, we’ll keep you posted when bookings are available.
If you’re the type to dine and dash, there will soon be an old-school-style takeaway window out the back of the building where you can order burgers off their everchanging secret menu.
Hooked? We thought so. FuFu 2.0 is open Monday to Friday from 5pm and 12pm until late on weekends.
